Expat slapped with hefty fine for hosting house party in violation of COVID-19 protocol

If you’re living anywhere in the middle east, then let this come as a warning to you. Authorities are taking the Coronavirus pandemic extremely seriously, as any country should, and should you be found violating the restrictions set by them, you will be fined; heavily.

An expat woman in Dubai has been fined a staggering Dh10,000 for hosting a house party, together with a musical band, which violates the Covid-19 protocols set by the state. Fines of up to Dh5,000 were also slapped on each of the band members as well as the guests for not staying in line with the protocols.

The guests and the members of the band were fined for not following the rules which includes maintaining social distancing and wearing face masks which is in violation of the resolution no.38 of 2020 which has been issued by the Attorney General of the UAE. According to Dubai Police, the woman was fined for holding a house party which was in violation of COVID-19 precautionary measures.

According to Brigadier Jamal Salem Al-Jallaf, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigations at Dubai Police, a fine of Dh10,000 is applicable to the host who invites guests or organises gatherings, meetings or any other events in violation of the set COVID-19 protocols. He has also reminded and requested members of the public to adhere strictly to the precautionary measures which have been put into place by local authorities. He further called upon the public to report those who are violating Covid-19 restrictions through various online platforms available on the local police app.
