Fantastic Beasts 3: Mads Mikkelson Responds To Reports Of Replacing Johnny Depp

The Hollywood industry is witnessing one of its biggest and most controversial moments of 2020. Johnny Depp has been in the spotlight ever since the court delivered its ruling, stating that the evidence surrounding the Pirates of the Caribbean star being called a “wife-beater” by a British tabloid was “substantially true”. Soon after, Depp was asked to step down from his much-coveted role in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Warner Bros confirmed that he would not be returning for the third installment in the series. Fans were left disappointed and before they could digest the news, reports about Mads Mikkelson replacing Depp in the Harry Potter spinoff of JK Rowling’s fantasy franchise started making the rounds.

Talking to IGN during an interview about his upcoming sci-fi film Chaos Walking, Mikkelson weighed in on Fantastic Beasts 3. When asked whether he has been approached for the role, the Hannibal star said, “Oh, that is on the rumour basis as we speak. So, I know as much as you do from the newspapers. So, I’m waiting for that phone call.” While he did not confirm his alleged presence in the film, he did make it quite apparent that he is in talks for Depp’s former villainous character Gellert Grindelwald.

Depp’s followers have vowed to boycott Fantastic Beasts as well as Warner Bros Studios and are demanding justice for him. Several online petitions have emerged regarding the same. His fans have gone so far as to protesting against Amber Heard’s involvement in the Aquaman films too, claiming the model was equally abusive towards Depp. An old 2018 petition demanding Depp’s return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has now resurfaced online, arguing that his character of Jack Sparrow was the backbone of all the previous films in the series. His supporters on Twitter are also going berserk over the potential entry of Mikkelson in Fantastic Beasts 3.
