Fast and Furious films are loved by many around the world. While audiences waited with bated breaths for the next installment in the Fast and Furious saga, its release date was inevitably pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic. With eight films in the series until now, Fast 9 was initially scheduled to hit cinema screens in May 2020. However, the Covid-19 outbreak led to the makers delaying the release and the action film will now be unveiled in theatres on April 2, 2021. What is surprising though is that, according to leading publication Variety, the highly-acclaimed Fast and Furious franchise will come to an end after the 11th film. Well, that’s news for us too!
Film-maker Justin Lin will reportedly direct the last two films of the series that introduced two talented actors to the world: Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker. Lin has previously helmed The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast and Furious 6 and Fast 9.

Fast 9 will comprise a star-studded cast of actors Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Lucas Black, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron and Sung Kan, with WWE superstar John Cena making his debut with the forthcoming film. Deadline reported the final two films will “tell a big story over two films” that will focus on the characters of Diesel, Rodriguez, Tyrese, Ludacris and Nathalie Emmanuel among others. Actor Sung Kang as Han, will be making a dashing reentry, especially after his character was previously assumed to be dead in the previous outing. Since Walker’s death in 2013, the past two franchise films have each grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide. Diesel earlier hinted that the 10th film in the action saga could be split into two, leaving fans even more excited. “For the fans, should ‘Fast 10’ parts one and two be the conclusion, it would be nice for this world to continue for generations to come,” he said earlier. Fast 9 will also allegedly witness the cast go into outer space as part of their latest mission.
