Fitoor Episode 10: Dilnasheen and Haider Get Married

“Fitoor” is a show that brings in high ratings, but also tethers on the line of interesting and frustrating. Written by Zanjabeel Asim and directed by Siraj Ul Haq, it stars Faysal Qureshi, Hiba Bukhari, Wahaj Ali and Kiran Haq in lead roles. While the basic story is interesting, a slew of backwards, regressive characters (namely Dilnasheen’s family) and extreme emotions manage to make this a less-than-perfect show. And yet, there’s something about it that keeps viewers coming back for more, mostly due to Wahaj Ali and Faysal Qureshi’s performances/characters.

Episode 10 is not an action-packed episode as it practically follows one single track regarding one single event. As Hamza (Wahaj Ali) begins to recover from his suicide attempt, his parents hope he does not become aware of the lie they’ve told him – that Dilnasheen (Hiba Bukhari) is waiting for him and her family has agreed to Hamza and Dilnasheen’s marriage. Unfortunately, that couldn’t be further than the truth, which is that Dilnasheen and Haider’s (Faysal Qureshi) marriage is taking place at that very moment. Hamza cannot wait to be reunited with his love and so, as soon as he’s fit enough to walk, he strides right out of his bedroom and heads to Dilnasheen’s home. This is where he’s met with some wedding guest, who inform him that the entire family is at the wedding hall for Dilnasheen’s marriage. How long did Hamza’s parents believe they could continue on with this farce? In this day and age, how difficult is it to pick up the phoneand make a phone call? This is obviously something Hamza would do almost immediately.

Of course, Dilnasheen still has Hamza on the mind while on the wedding stage. Hamza doesn’t waste any time arriving at the hall – which hall? How did he know exactly where to go? Regardless, Dilnasheen spots him there and her imagination goes into overdrive as she envisions him shooting Haider. Hamza may be obsessive in love, but there’s really no reason for him to murder an innocent man and, don’t worry, he does not. Dilnasheen’s vision remains in her mind as she is walked out by her new in-laws and husband while Hamza tearfully stands by and watches the love of his life walk out the door, leaving him behind. Now at home, Dilnasheen and Haider begin their life together, Haider proving to be a nice man – which there was really never any doubt.

Quite honestly, it’s Wahaj Ali who is holding this show together with his performance. He’s the only one being given scope to act, week after week. “Fitoor” has been “The Wahaj Ali Show” for the past 8 episodes. However, things seem to be taking an exciting turn in the next episode as Hamza’s sister, once Dilnasheen’s friend, vows to become her worst enemy. This is understandable as Dilnasheen really never stood up to her family, never did anything for her love and never bothered to make a case for herself against her family. Rather, her toxic family will continue to emotionally bully and blackmail her after her marriage and, again, this just leaves the viewer frustrated and wondering why Dilnasheen doesn’t simply rebel against them entirely and refuse to meet them. It will be interesting to see this story unfold now that Dilnasheen is married to Haider and both Hamza and Mehmal (Kiran Haq) are still looking to find a place in their lives.
