Former Pakistani PM Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali Passes Away: Tributes Pour In From Across The Country

Former Pakistani prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali passed away on Wednesday evening. He was 76 years old. The news of his demise was confirmed by his relative, Senator Sana Jamali. He was shifted to the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology & National Institute of Heart Diseases (AFIC-NIHD) in Rawalpindi after suffering a heart attack last week. Jamali was on ventilator support in the Coronary Care Unit for the past week. The details of his funeral have not been issued as yet. The late leader served as the premier from November 2002 until June 2004.

 

He was the country’s first and only elected prime minister from Balochistan and was elected during the military regime of Gen Pervez Musharraf. He was replaced by Shaukat Aziz in 2004. He won the 2013 general elections as an independent, but later joined the PML-N and used to sit on the treasury benches in the previous assembly.

 

 

 

 

Prime Minister Imran Khan mourned Jamali’s passing in a tweet, writing he was “saddened to hear of the passing of” Jamali and sent condolences to his family. “General Qamar Javed Bajwa, #COAS expresses heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali. May Allah bless his soul & give strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss, Ameen,” read DG ISPR’s official Twitter handle. Balochistan National Party (BNP-M) president Sardar Akhtar Mengal posted, “Very saddened to hear about the passing of Mir Zafarullah Jamali. May Allah grant him the highest place in jannah and give strength and patience to the family for this irreplaceable loss.”

Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood added, “Deeply grieved at the death of Mir Zafarullah Jamali, former PM of Pakistan. A true gentleman full of humour and wit. Will be missed. May his soul RIP.” Former finance minister Ishaq Dar’s wife Marvi Memon penned, “PM Jamali was amazing. Chacha will be missed by many. Condolences to the family.” Ex-minister of law Babar Awan tweeted, “I am deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Former Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali. He was a seasoned parliamentarian and a kind soul. My condolences to his children, Mir Jan Jamali, and the entire Jamali family. May Allah bless the departed soul.” President TLP, Allama Razi Hussaini posted, “I express my heartfelt condolences on the demise of former Prime Minister #ZafarullahJamali, there are some politicians who gave priority to Islam over the rubbish Politics Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali was one of them. My deepest sympathies to the family.”
