From the Highway to Sadak

Alia Bhatt has graduated slowly from being the Student Of The Year to getting on to the Highway in Bollywood meeting the Gully Boy and now entered the Sadak 2. Puns apart, the actress stars in the highly-anticipated Bollywood movie Sadak 2 which incidentally marks the return of Mahesh Bhatt to direction. Bhatt had taken a break film being a director after his autobiographical film Zakhm starring Pooja Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Nagarjuna, Sonali Bendre, Kunal Khemu and Akshay Anand and decided to nurture younger talent into films produced by his brother Mukesh Bhatt and daughter Pooja Bhatt by merely being the creative head of a project. Sadak 2 also stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjay Dutt, Pooja Bhatt, Gulshan Grover and theatre thespian Makarand Deshpande in a pivotal role inspired by Bhatt’s former mentor Osho a.k.a Baba Rajnish.

“This movie is a homecoming in true sense” as it will feature the Bhatt clan coming together for a movie be it on or off screen. Alia will work with Pooja for the first time in her career. Stating that Sadak 2 is the continuation of the first film, she also revealed that the mountains play a very significant role in the film. As the poster doesn’t show any characters, she narrated a quote from her father Mahesh Bhatt that revealed the reason behind it. She read out, “Mount Kailash – the ageless mountain has the footprints of gods and sages. It is the abode of the god of all gods – Lord Shiva. Do we really need anything else or actors in that sacred space. Since the beginning of time, humanity found its shelter in Kailash. This is the place where all search ends. Sadak 2 is the road to love”.

Rather than hit the road to the silver screen Sadak 2 will now land on an OTT platform. “Sadak 2 is an exciting film. From my childhood, every time I used to watch my father’s movies with family, everyone loved his music apart from the storyline and the treatment. I feel immensely proud that l am a part of a song this time, where I can see myself,” she says blissfully. Sadak 2 is the remake of the original film Sadak directed by Mahesh Bhatt and starring Pooja Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt in 1991. In fact Alia Bhatt was not even born when Sadak released. Sadak in fact had Alia’s mother Soni Razdan playing a pivotal character.

“There is also a lot of thrill in the film. The character of Maharani in Sadak was iconic. Here, the villain is totally different. I am looking forward to it,” she says.

Alia is also expected to be seen next in films like Brahmastra opposite her beau Ranbir Kapoor, Gangubai Kathiawadi directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and in a pivotal role in the Baahubali maker SS Rajamouli’s film RRR.
