‘From UAE to Lebanon’ Humanitarian Initiative Launched

The UAE Volunteers Campaign has launched an urgent humanitarian initiative to support Lebanon following the two deadly explosions in Beirut on 4th August 2020 which resulted in more than 200 deaths, nearly 7,000 injured people and US$ 10-15 billion worth of property damage, and have left an estimated 300,000 people homeless.

The new initiative, titled ‘From UAE For Lebanon’, has been launched in collaboration with the relevant authorities in the UAE and is an opportunity for Emiratis as well as UAE residents to extend their support for the Lebanese people, who have already been impacted by several months of economic and political turmoil in addition to the coronavirus pandemic.

Participants can help collect essential supplies for donation between 10th to 25th August. Those working in the field of engineering can volunteer in the second phase of the programme and provide materials for rebuilding Beirut between 15th August and 12th September.

The UAE has already sent aid worth tens of millions of dirhams, along with 12 tonnes of protective equipment to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The country’s Higher National Committee for Regulating Volunteering during Crisis announced the UAE Volunteers campaign in early April as part of the volunteers.ae platform — in collaboration with the Emirates Foundation and the Ministry of Community Development — to unify volunteering efforts in the country, and integrate initiatives by the government and the private sector during the pandemic. UAE nationals and residents can use their skills and expertise to provide support virtually or in the field to the ongoing efforts being made by the government to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
