Ghisi Piti Mohabbat Episode 16: Ali Abbas’ Entry Further Lifts Interest In The Show

“Ghisi Piti Mohabbat” is a show that pushes against the concepts and practices we’ve had drilled into our heads since a young age. Starring Ramsha Khan, Wahaj Ali, Shahood Alvi, Saba Faisal and many others, this talented cast is directed by Ahmed Bhatti while the story has been written by Fasih Bari Khan. Throughout the show’s run, we’ve seen Samia’s marriage to Rizwan (Wahaj Ali) come to an end and, in episode 15, we saw her get married to Khalil, a man much older than she, but also a man with a wife.

Episode 16 picks up where episode 15 left off with Samia (Ramsha Khan) and Khalil (Shahood Alvi) on their wedding night. After Khalil drinks milk, he’s shocked to see blood on his hands, coming from his mouth, and then falls over as Samia watches in shock. Farkhanda (Shaheen Khan) confesses to the crime and it’s clear how much Farkhanda has suffered over the years with a man like Khalil. It’s difficult when a once-confident woman loves a man so deeply and is made to feel as though she’s not only not enough for him, but told that she’s less than worthy. This is the treatment Farkhanda has put up with for decades with Khalil and his second marriage is the last straw. She acknowledges that Samia is a good girl and deserves better than what Khalil will give her. There’s a nice moment where Samia puts her hand on Farkhanda’s, letting her know that she understands. Farkhanda is taken to jail and Samia returns home. Shaheen Khan has given a stellar performance in this role, juggling between being the confident, modern, self-assured woman society sees outside the home and the neglected, dejected and lonely woman she is at home. While one certainly does not applaud murder, a character like Farkhanda sheds light on how and why women commit crimes of passion.

Back at home, Samia has now resumed her routine. With the exception of Farida (Saba Faisal), no one in her family seems particularly bothered or upset by Khalil’s death. However, now back at work, Samia has a new co-worker, played by Ali Abbas. This character (unsure of his name) is loud, flirtatious and is a humorous one. Ali Abbas brings a new freshness to a show that’s already bringing it’s A-game, so the addition of his role is just another feather in the writer’s cap. It will be entertaining to see how Ali Abbas’s character finds a place in Samia’s life and how their relationship fares considering he is very different from Samia.

Sohail and Asmara’s marriage is on the rocks now as Asmara and her beloved mother-in-law Rubina continue spending all their time together. Sohail loves his mother and wants to see her happy, but also wants to be able to spend time with his wife. He finally confides in his mother and makes it clear that he’s growing increasingly frustrated in his marriage. Unfortunately here, it’s Asmara that’s the problem. Sohail is a nice guy and while odor is a big problem, there are better ways to handle this situation and Asmara’s doing a poor job. It’s easy to sympathize with Asmara, because no one likes being around body odor, whether it’s sweat smells, mouth odor or one passing gas – and it seems Sohail indulges in all of the above. Still, Asmara is sabotaging her marriage entirely with her behavior instead of simply being honest and kindly telling Sohail that she needs a partner who cares for his personal hygiene. While Asmara does finally burst, it comes out in a rather nasty way and one wonders what the outcome will be of this situation. On paper, it seems like a silly story, but only one who has lived this reality can understand what a big problem it can be!

One cannot praise everyone else and not say a few words for Ramsha Khan. While every other actor on the show is doing a great job, it’s Ramsha Khan that holds the show together with the premise resting on her two shoulders – and she holds her own. She has always been a natural performer in her past shows, even if her most recent (Ishqiya) did not give her much room to perform with a limited character. “Ghisi Piti Mohabbat” pushes her into the league of top actresses. She’s doing a great job and, more than that, her role has been written in an inspirational way. The way Samia faces her problems and moves through life without focusing on the negatives is refreshing to watch and, honestly, much needed for young girls (and otherwise) to see. As the show moves forward, we will see Samia’s third marriage fall into place – but will it be a success?
