Ghisi Piti Mohabbat Takes Off With A Wildly Entertaining Start

Thursdays have officially reached “overload” levels in terms of content. “Ghisi Piti Mohabbat” has joined the Thursday lineup, now airing along with “Pyar Ke Sadqay,” “Bandhay Ek Dour Se,” “Kasak,” “Rockstar,” “Tera Gham Aur Hum,” and “Gustakh.” Competition has become fierce as, realistically, who has time to watch 7 dramas in one night? Why channels have chosen to self-sabotage by airing their most promising shows on the same night is hard to understand, but one thing is for sure – the new entrant offers something fresh and exciting, strikingly different from the rest. Written by Fasih Bari Khan and directed by Ahmed Bhatti, the drama stars Wahaj Ali, Ramsha Khan, Saba Hameed, Saba Faisal, Safie Hassan, Samina Ahmed, Sana Askari, Arjumand Rahim and several others, creating an ensemble cast comprising of some of Pakistan’s best talent.

In episode 1, viewers are introduced to Samia (Ramsha Khan) and she takes the audience into flashback mode as she tells the tale of her first marriage. As the story gets rolling, Farhat (Sana Askari) and Aziza (Saba Hameed) encounter Samia and the three immediately start a verbal war as all three ladies are headstrong – and Farhat and Aziza manipulative. Coming from a female-dominating household, Samia knows how to take care of herself, but winds up falling for the charmer Rizwan (Wahaj Ali), a young man who knows how to get through life by whatever means necessary. Their relationship progresses through the course of the episode and the two elope. Of course, Samia and Rizwan’s love story hits a road block when they return home only for Samia to discover Aziza and Farhat are her new in-laws.

The Wahaj Ali and Ramsha Khan pairing caught viewer attention and appreciation in Hum TV’s “Mah E Tamaam,” but within one episode alone, their chemistry is through the roof in “Ghisi Piti Mohabbat.” The comedic timing and bickering is accompanied by a natural ease that makes their relationship on-screen believable. It’s also great to see both Wahaj Ali and Ramsha Khan in light-hearted, more cheerful roles. The “supporting cast” isn’t really a supporting cast, rather this is a true ensemble cast as we see Saba Hameed, Saba Faisal, Safie Hassan, Samina Ahmed and the entire team receiving their moment in the spotlight. The female roles are particularly strong, as seen in this episode when Rizwan turns his anger on Samia for speaking disrespectfully to his mother – but Samia refuses to back down and keep quiet. It will be interesting to see how this show progresses as it’s clear from the preview for episode 2 that Rizwan’s father and Samia’s mother have a past connection. So far, “Ghisi Piti Mohabbat” is a winner!
