Hamza Ali Abbasi fans will recall that the actor called out Netflix earlier this month over one of their upcoming films titled Cuties. Not just Hamza Ali Abbasi, but a number of people too called it out for the content of its promotional poster that was released by the platform. The French film is a coming-of-age comedy-drama, written and directed by Maïmouna Doucouré as her directorial debut. The film is all set to follow and highlight the life of an 11-year-old girl, Amy, who originally hails from Senegal and grows up in a working-class area of Paris.
She manages to defy her ‘conservative’ family when she “becomes aware of her burgeoning sexuality,” according to the film’s description.”Things turn swiftly as Amy is fascinated by her disobedient neighbour Angelica’s twerking clique called Cuties,” it reads. The promotional poster for the film shows four young girls posing in tight costumes in which their legs and midriffs can be seen. Once the promotional content of the film was released, tens of thousands signed a petition demanding the removal of the film altogether from the platform.
It was regarded as ‘disgusting’ and ‘for the viewing pleasure of pedophiles’. One such person was Hamza Ali Abbasi who immediately took to social media to condemn the promotional content. “It’s horrifying to see a show in the mainstream blatantly sexualising 11-year-old kids. If this show is still there by the next month, I am canceling my Netflix subscription and so should you,” the Alif actor had said. You can view the tweet here:

“Cancel Cuties on Netflix! – Sign the Petition!” he added as he shared the petition which he himself had signed. And now, a few weeks on, the Pyaare Afzal star has shared that he has cancelled his subscription of the streaming giant as a way to protest. Taking to Twitter, he shared a screenshot of his cancelled subscription and wrote, “Despite global condemnation, Netflix still went ahead and released Cuties! Yup, now we have soft core pedo porn on a mainstream media platform. That’s a deal breaker for me. Can’t do much but what I can do is Cancel my Netflix subscription, maybe YOU SHOULD TOO!” Check it out here:

Netflix had earlier responded to the uproar but failed to remove the film from its platform. “We understand that not all stories may appeal to all our viewers, which is why we always invest in a diverse range of content from all over the world. We also provide ratings, synopsis, trailers and controls to help our members make the right viewing choices for themselves and their families,” it said in a statement.
