Hasan Minhaj’s much-loved weekly talk show, Patriot Act, is all set to come to an end after a two-year long run on Netflix. With a total of 40 episodes, the show was popular on the entertainment portal. The host took to Twitter last night to announce the news, saying that the show would not be returning for a seventh season.
“What a run,” Minhaj wrote on Twitter. “Patriot Act has come to an end. I got to work with the best writers, producers, researchers, and animators in the game. My two babies were born and grew up with the show. Thank you to Netflix and everyone who watched. Now it’s time to return these screens to Best Buy,” he concluded his tweet.
The show gained much recognition for the timely covering of topics ranging from politics and cultural moments. Recent episodes of the show highlighted the coronavirus pandemic, George Floyd’s death, the Black Lives Matter protests, the upcoming US election and the price of attending college. The show ran between 2018 and 2020 and also received an Emmy and Peabody Award. The final season was postponed due to the pandemic and aired on the streaming service in June. While the show has now been cancelled, the entire show will continue to be available on Netflix.
During his time on the show, Hasan Minhaj has gained quite the following and has amassed a huge fan base. So much so, that comments and tweets have been pouring in, many of which are disappointed with the show’s cancellation. Here’s what netizens had to say.
“This is some of the worst news ever,” said one user, while another said, “Never knew 2020 could get much worse, so sad.”

In other years I’d say that this cancellation was terrible news, but for 2020 we are far to accustomed to this level of disappointment
