Here’s how you can change up your skincare routine this Autumn

We’re super excited to welcome the fall season and inevitable the winter that follows. After months of surviving the sweltering heat, there’s a slight chill in the air which marks the end of summer. *Hallelujah* But as we transition into autumn and the weather changes, our skin too will react and face a change to the shifting temperatures. While summer months allow the humidity to help moisture stay in the skin and protect its barrier, colder months get drier and skin begins to lose its moisture.

This then results in increased sensitivity, dryness, and irritation. So as the season turns, it is imperative to change up your skincare routine for maintaining healthy, happy skin as the colder months are upon us. Add these skincare tweaks to your regimen to help your skin survive the cooler temperatures.

  1. Switch to a thicker moisturiser

If you’ve been opting for a light-weight, oil-free moisturiser all summer long, it’s time to say goodbye. Now is the time you should be switching to a thicker and bulkier moisturiser which will hydrate your skin as the temperature drops. While your skin does produce essential fatty acids naturally, these need to be replenished in the colder months.

  1. Cut back on exfoliation

Cutting back on hard and robust ingredients like retinoids and glycolic acid is key as the weather changes. Even masking should be restricted to once a week to help remove the discolouration brought on by the summer sun. Exfoliation too will strip the skin of its natural oils which are already reduced during the colder months.

  1. Add Vitamin C to your regimen

You may already be doing this during the summer months but Vitamin C serum works double duty in the colder months and also helps to combat SPF rays that are not fully blocked by your sunscreen.   1. Don’t stop using sunscreen

This is a big no! Many people think that just because it’s winter and colder; there is no sun. This is a huge misconception. Radiation may be greater during the summer time, but it persists during all four seasons. Sunscreen helps to reduce the incoming radiation so even during winter months it is recommended to use an SPF 30 at least.

  1. Try a humidifier

Dermatologists have suggested investing in a humidifier during the fall season which will help boost hydration in the home. They add moisture to the air and of course your skin is always in contact with the air. And so, the more moisture in the air, the more moisture will be left on your skin.
