Hussain Al Jassmi Faces Cyber Bullying on Twitter

Popular Emirati singer Hussain Al Jassmi — who has more than 6.6 million followers on Twitter and over 3.6 million followers on Instagram — has been facing cyberbullying over his tweet on Lebanon. On 1st August, which was Lebanese Army Day, the singer had written on his official Twitter page, “I will love Lebanon until the end of the world.” He also performed a song online for celebrations, which was shared on his YouTube channel.

However, when later Beirut was hit by two deadly explosions, some Twitter users started targeting Al Jassmi saying his message had jinxed Lebanon. Fellow celebrities and the singer’s fans have rushed to his support, with an Arabic hashtag, which translates to “Hussain Al Jassmi, we all love you” trending on the site in the UAE.

Egyptian singer Mostafa Gad, sharing a picture of himself with the singer, said Al Jassmi was a respected “brother” and “friend”. He said that what was happening was “absolute stupidity and lack of manners” and that as an artist Al Jassmi had brought “nothing but happiness to each and every Arabic home.”

Twitter user @idhaheriii, sharing Al Jassmi’s picture, wrote, “How noble is a sad heart whose sadness does not prevent it from singing a song with joyful hearts.”

Emirati singer Ahlam posted a picture of Al Jassmi and said he was “the pride” of her country. Singer Fayez Al Saeed called him a “first-class artist” and wrote, “we are proud of your art.”

Hussain Al Jassmi — known for songs like Boshreit Kheir and Bassbour Al Fourgakom — recently hosted a live charity show at Dubai Opera alongside Lebanese singer Yara. He has been active in the music industry since 2002 and his YouTube channel has received over 700 million views till date.
