In throwback pictures, Sonu Nigam refers to Sajjad Ali as most respected musicians of all time

It is not rare for Indian artists to praise Pakistan where credit is due and Sonu Nigam is one artist who has, in the past, been all praise for Pakistan and its music industry. Just last month, he was all praise for Nescafe Basement’s popular track, Bol Hu. He was all praise for aspiring singer Hadia Hashmi and band Soch for the song and Xulfi for the brilliant composition. The praise was welcomed by Pakistan.

And now, the Bole Chudiya singer has once again taken to social media and shared a heartfelt message for another one of Pakistan’s famous musicians. Taking to his Instagram account, Sonu Nigam shared some throwback pictures from the time he met with Sajjad Ali for the first time. Three pictures were shared from their meetup and were captioned by the singer as, “This picture is from March 19 when Adel Farooq took us to check and assess Atif Ali’s studio for the first digital live concert that we eventually did on March 22.”

He went on to recall the meeting and said, “Incidentally one of the most respected singers and musicians of all times, and my personal favourite @thesajjadali bhai was there too with his son and it was so sweet of him to wait till I arrive so we may meet for the first time in our lives. And then we chatted for an hour and a half.”

Sonu Nigam went on to reveal that one of Sajjad Ali’s songs was earlier covered by his sister. “For people who don’t know, his Katna Nai is one of my family’s most favourite songs and so was covered by my exceptionally talented sister, Teesha Nigam,” he continued, “But before that, I wanted to go about it absolutely respectfully and thus I called Sajjad Bhai to seek his permission for the same. It was very, very gracious of him to not just give us permission for the same but not even charge for it! That’s called true graciousness.”

Of course Sajjad Ali was touched by his words and shared, “It was a great pleasure meeting you too Sonu Nigam – One of the most sureela singers of our time.”
