It’s a long weekend in the UAE. Dubai motorists will be able to enjoy free parking in the emirate on Sunday, 23rd August, which is a public holiday to commemorate Hijri New Year 1442. While the Islamic New Year began on Thursday, 20th August, Sunday has been declared an official holiday for both public and private sector workers in the UAE.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that all public parking zones in the city, except for multi-storey parkings, would be free of charge on Sunday. RTA has also shared metro and tram timings for the holiday. Dubai Metro’s green line stations will operate from 5.30am to 12 midnight while the red line stations will be active from 5am until midnight on Sunday. Meanwhile, the tram will run from 6am on Sunday until 1am the following day.
Similarly, in Abu Dhabi, the emirate’s Integrated Transport Centre has announced that surface public parking would be free on Sunday until 7:59am on Monday, 24th August. The centre has asked motorists to observe rules during the holiday by parking in designated spots, avoid blocking other vehicles or traffic flow, and following resident parking rules which apply between 9pm to 8am in selected areas which are marked by signs.
Public bus services in the UAE capital will run according to the Friday schedule, while ferry services between Jebel Dhanna port and Dalma Island and from Saadiyat to Al Aliah Island will operate according to the usual schedule.
