Jalan Episode 10: This Minal Khan Starrer Is Becoming Repetitive

“Jalan” is a show that is raking in viewership and Minal Khan’s character, Nisha, has been getting a fair amount of attention. Starring Minal Khan, Emmad Irfani, Areeba Habib, Fahad Sheikh, Maira Khan and Hajra Yamin in central roles, the show follows the seen-too-often story of an unstable sister fixating on her own brother-in-law. While storylines like this are not palatable for the general audience, there is something about this show that keeps viewers coming back for more. Last week, things finally seemed to be taking a turn for the better and it seemed episode 10 would be action-packed.

Unfortunately, that’s not exactly the case. What we are treated to in episode 10 is more of Nisha (Minal Khan) forcing herself into Asfandyar’s (Emmad Irfani) life. After realizing Misha (Areeba Habib) is pregnant, Asfandyar is overjoyed and realizes his appreciation for his wife. Of course, Nisha is not having this and throws tantrums, basically harassing Asfandyar to spend time with her. Now does that mean Asfandyar is an innocent? Absolutely not. In fact, Asfandyar’s behavior in this episode is even more unpalatable than Nisha’s (which is hard to beat). If one understands that they cannot continue this relationship, why doesn’t he just say no and be done with it? But no, Asfandyar is seen taking Nisha out for lunches and dinners after he has already told her Misha is pregnant. Logically, Asfandyar could have cleared this whole mess by telling Misha that his sister has been after him from the beginning and the situation could have been handled. But of course, the drama must continue so Asfandyar will continue going around with Nisha until he gets into serious trouble…..which he will deserve.

The real highlight of the show is Ahmer (Fahad Sheikh), Hajra Yamin’s character and Ahmer’s sister (played by Maira Khan). This is a “branch” of the family that is the more lovable side and viewers want to root for Ahmer’s happy ending. But their track is moving much too slow and isn’t being given the attention it deserves, especially since it’s much more interesting watching a wounded man come out of misery to find happiness than watching the destruction of another couple.

The next episode looks irritating with Nisha forcing her way into Misha’s home. What kind of family is this exactly that cannot stand up to their daughter/sister? Nisha will destroy Misha’s home and these people will simply allow it. It was nice to see their mother stand up to Nisha in this episode and the parents take note of her behavior, but she’s a woman in her 20s – where have they been all this time? Suddenly, they realize Ahmer (Fahad Sheikh) is a gem and their daughter is a mess – well, Nisha wasn’t any different a few weeks earlier, so why this realization now? We will have to wait and see how this story unfolds, but I’m still holding on hope for something different rather than a man leaving his wife for her sister.
