Jannat Mirza’s Move to Japan: Was It Because of the TikTok Ban in Pakistan?

TikTok star Jannat Mirza has been in Japan since mid-August. While it was initially assumed that she was there for a mini getaway, the social media sensation made headlines when various media outlets reported that she had allegedly shifted to Tokyo. Three days ago, one comment on an image she posted on her official Instagram account grabbed eyeballs, where a follower asked her ‘Aap Japan shift ho rahee hain kya (Are you shifting to Japan)’ to which she replied with, ‘Jee (yes)’. Coming straight from the horse’s mouth, this led to conjecture that the social media sensation had indeed made the decision following Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA) ban on the video-sharing app, with many stating that it clashed with Mirza’s departure from the country.

However, Mirza left for the foreign land almost two months prior to PTA’s ban on TikTok last week. While quoting The Brown Identity on her Instagram story, she denied the fact that she had moved to Japan due to the ban. While we are still awaiting her comment on the matter, it seems like, contrary to popular belief, Mirza’s departure from the country was a mere coincidence and had nothing to do with the app being blocked in Pakistan.

However, it would be interesting to know why she is in Tokyo and whether she has an upcoming project in the pipeline, something her fans have been speculating too! While speaking about the controversy surrounding TikTok, Mirza earlier said, “I, myself, wanted a ban on TikTok in Pakistan, but it should not be on a permanent basis. Videos should be allowed to be broadcast after a formal code of conduct.” Earlier, Mirza posted that the TikTok ban in Pakistan has helped her to know who her well-wishers are. “Tiktok ban honay ka aik faida zarur huwa k mjhe tamaam Aasteen k saanpo ka pata lag gya. Thanks to PTA,” she posted on the photo-sharing platform.
