“Jhoom” Concludes Its Run At 16 Episodes With An Enjoyable Finale

As far as TRPs go, “Jhoom” has been high on the charts since its pilot episode. Starring Haroon Kadwani and Zara Noor Abbas in lead roles, this drama also stars Usman Peerzada, Javed Sheikh, Zainab Qayyum, Haaris Waheed, Sidra Niazi and Noreen Gulwani. The story has been written by the talented Hashim Nadeem while the show has been directed by Ali Faizan. Initially focusing on the issue of an age difference between a couple, the show went on to discuss different topics such as the importance of mental health, child abandonment issues, and the need for divorce to be handled with sensitivity.

In the finale, Aryaan (Haroon Kadwani) and Maryam (Zara Noor Abbas) have moved on with their lives, no longer entertaining the idea of a future together despite visibly being hung up on one another.

Aryaan has transformed into a dutiful son, caring for his mother in the hospital and making his presence felt once again at Asfandvar’s (Javed Sheikh) orphanage. Aryaan is back on the right track while Maryam continues to throw herself into her work, both simply going through the motions of life without one another. However, when Maryam’s old attackers resurface, Axaan comes to her rescue and saves Sherry (Haaris Waheed) in the process, leading to their reunion.

The finale is an overall enjoyable episode, but there are a few points to discuss. First, Maryam has always been the weakest link in this romance, not because there’s any question of her love. Rather, Maryam has always expected Aryaan to go above and beyond for her, work hard at proving himself for her and constantly working to appease her selfish, criminal younger brother. Has this really been fair to Aaryan? Does Maryam even deserve Aaryan? This is the question many are left asking after watching this episode, along with previous ones.

Second, Haaris Waheed as Sherry is an interesting character, a narcissist who destroys his sister’s life in order to satisfy his own ego. Sherry has truly been a villain in his sister’s life, but not once does Maryam truly acknowledge that. When Aaryan comes to Maryam’s rescue, it melts Sherry’s heart and he realizes that Aryaan is a good guy for his sister. However, the accusations Sherry throws around at his friends is ridiculous. It’s not the responsibility of his friends to save him and his sister. Still, Haaris Waheed performs incredibly well in this scene and it’s great to see how Sherry grows and recognizes that his sister deserves happiness. It’s the bonding between Sherry and Maryam that steals the show in the finale.

The final scene with Aaryan giving pushback to Maryam, stating he cannot be with a woman who listens to a third party is an excellent scene. What Aryan says is accurate, as Maryam has always put Aaryan second to Sherry. After everything Aryan has endured for Maryam, does Maryam really deserve Aaryan at all? Aryaan’s decision to walk away feels bittersweet and yet, it also feels fitting – until Aryaan changes his mind and the two reunite. A happy ending may not have been the perfect ending, but it does leave viewers with a smile on their faces. Haroon Kadwani and Zara Noor Abbas share good chemistry, which really works in the show’s favor and both have given their heart and soul to portraying these characters well.

What really works in favor of the show is its limited number of episodes, ending on episode 16. We can hope that other channels and writers follow suit and recognize that a shorter show with a strong story and action packed episodes are preferred to long, drawn out dramas with a lack of quality. Along with a

shorter episode count and a well-written story, “Jhoom” also boasts of great music and stunning visuals that keep viewers hooked. It is a visual delight| “hoom” is not necessarily set in realism and does have a slightly over-the-top feel to it, but it’s entertaining to watch and Haroon Kadwani and Zara Noor Abbas share great chemistry. “Jhoom” is worth watching!
