Days before the court’s ruling in Johnny Depp’s libel case against The Sun’s publishers, various Op-Eds revealed that the verdict would have a great impact on the Hollywood heartthrob’s career. On November 2, Judge Justice Andrew Nicol announced The Pirates of the Caribbean star had lost the high-stake trial, with the court refusing to provide him with any compensation for damage to his reputation. A huge blow to Depp’s acting journey indeed, he has now been asked to step down from his much-awaited role in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts film. The actor made the announcement on his Instagram handle.
He revealed that Warner Bros. studio had asked him to leave his role as the villain, Gellert Grindelwald. “I have respected and agreed to that request,” he said in a statement. Warner Bros said in a statement that Depp “will depart the Fantastic Beasts franchise,” and that his role would be recast.
