Hollywood actor Johnny Depp’s defeat in the high-stake libel trial against a British tabloid that labelled him a wife-beater has undoubtedly caused a major blow to his showbiz career. Soon after Judge Justice Andrew Nicol deemed the accusations against him to be “substantially true”, the star was dropped from the third installment in the Fantastic Beasts series. While many petitions popped up demanding justice for him, the efforts of his diehard fans evidently went in vain. In a latest development, it turns out that Depp has been blocked from making a cameo return in the popular Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Depp essayed the melodramatic Captain Jack Sparrow in the films, which even earned him an Oscar nomination. According to a recent report, Disney studio has blocked the actor’s return following his court battle against ex-wife Amber Heard. According to the report, producer Jerry Bruckheimer had wanted to include Depp in the upcoming film even if it was for just a cameo. However, “Disney balked” in fear of its reputation getting damaged for bringing an alleged harasser on board.

Depp has applied directly to the court of appeal in a bid to overturn the high court ruling that he assaulted Heard and put her in fear for her life. It is unclear what Depp’s grounds of appeal are, or when a decision on his application for permission to appeal will be made. Depp’s lawyer Jenny Afia, of Schillings law firm, previously said, “This decision is as perverse as it is bewildering. Most troubling is the judge’s reliance on the testimony of Amber Heard, and corresponding disregard of the mountain of counter-evidence from police officers, medical practitioners, her own former assistant, other unchallenged witnesses and an array of documentary evidence which completely undermined the allegations, point by point. All of this was overlooked. The judgment is so flawed that it would be ridiculous for Mr Depp not to appeal this decision.”
