It has been a tough time for Hollywood star Johnny Depp, who not only lost the high-stake libel trial against The Sun’s publishers over claims of him being a “wife-beater” but was also asked to step down from his role in the much-awaited Fantastic Beasts 3. According to recent reports, the Pirates of the Caribbean star will still earn his full salary of $10 million despite shooting just one scene in the third installment of the popular franchise. Following Depp’s exit, Warner Bros Studios also postponed the release date of the film to July 2022. Depp played the popular villainous character, Gellert Grindlewald in the previous films.

“As is common with stars of his level, there was no morality clause in his contract, even though it was amended with each new installment,” read a report. Last week, Depp announced on Instagram that he would be quitting the franchise. “I’d like to thank everybody who has gifted me with their support and loyalty. I have been humbled and moved by your many messages of love and concern, particularly over the last few days,” he said.

He then mentioned that he is planning to appeal, adding, “Finally, I wish to say this. The surreal judgement of the court in the UK will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal. My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false. My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time. Thank you for reading. Sincerely, Johnny Depp.” Millions of his fans have planned to boycott Fantastic Beasts 3. Other Depp supporters revealed they will not watch Aquaman 2 if his ex-wife Amber Heard stars in it. “I’ll totally boycott Aquaman 2 if there’s still Amber Heard. And I’ll boycott, too, Pirates of Caribbean and Fantastic Beasts if there’s no Johnny Depp,” wrote one user on Twitter. Another added, “The worst think ever to see. The innocent Johnny Depp loses his role as Grindelwald while the abuser Amber continues as Mera. Injustice of 2020.”
