Johnny Depp Vs Amber Heard: Feud between former couple continues, new accusations arise

It seems like the spat between former Hollywood power couple – Johnny Depp and Amber Heard – is still not over. One controversy after another has led to the estranged duo being in the headlines since their divorce was finalized back in 2017. Heard earlier claimed that the Pirates of the Caribbean star physically assaulted her. However, Depp has now come forward to snub the allegations levelled against him and has accused his ex-wife of blatant lies. He also told London High Court that she tried to cause him physical harm in the first place. In light of this, a furious Depp is also suing a British tabloid for misguiding its readers over his feud with Heard.

The Sun’s publisher, News Group Newspapers, and its executive editor, Dan Wootton, have come under fire for an article written by the latter in April 2018, which referred to Depp as a “wife beater”. The paper’s lawyers said they would show the claim was true and that he had beaten Heard while being intoxicated on alcohol and drugs, eventually causing her to leave him.

“For the avoidance of any doubt, I have never abused Ms Heard, or, indeed, any other woman, in my life,” Depp said in a witness statement in which he characterised his ex-wife as a “calculating, emotionally dishonest narcissist”. Heard was also present at the London High Court.

Depp’s lawyer David Sherborne said Heard had first aired the abuse allegations in May 2016, saying it was hard to think of “more extreme or violent” claims of abuse than she would make during the trial. “The Claimant’s position is clear; Ms Heard’s allegations are complete lies,” Sherborne said. “The Claimant was not violent towards Ms Heard, it was she who was violent to him.” Depp’s team also alleged that Heard had begun an affair with Tesla chief executive Elon Musk in early 2015 shortly after she married Depp and was supposedly also involved in an extra-marital affair. Heard is yet to make a comment on this development. Depp said he was the victim of attacks from Heard as well. “I would try to go to my own corner as it were,” he said. When asked about one argument, he mentioned “It escalated and it got physical … Miss Heard struck me.”
