Not too long ago, actor Kangana Ranaut made headlines for making her official debut on Twitter. As she made her foray onto the micro-blogging platform, the Queen star posted, “It has been 15 years since I have been working in films. In these years, there have been many occasions when there have been moments of pressure to join social media. I chose to stay away from social media as I never felt any distance from my audience. I have always felt that if I had to say anything, why should I do so in a rudimentary way; through films I have talked about women empowerment and nationalism. I believed that I would do so in an artistic way. That has been my stance for long.” However, she added that Sushant Singh Rajput’s passing made her realise the “power of social media” and so, she took the plunge. Its not surprising that one week on and the starlet has already landed in hot waters for yet another controversy.

The hashtag #KanganaVirus has been trending since morning, demanding the ban of Kangana, who claims it is the work of Bollywood mafias. Reacting to this, she tweeted, “Wonderful #Boycott_Kangana trending, Choohe bilon se baahar aa rahe hain, chalo thora haath pair toh mafia bhi maaray gi,” throwing shade at Bollywood bigwigs including Ranbir Kapoor, Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan among others. She then shared an image of these B-town celebrities with ‘Virus’ written as a header. Below the belt, maybe? The other part of the pciture features a still from her film, Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi, with ‘Sanitizer’ written on it, insinuating she is the disinfectant.

Kangana added, “Choohon waapas bil mein chale jaao varna Gabbar aa jayega… filmi style hool deni hai toh aise dete hain, #Boycott_Kangana trend se mujhe darr nahim lagta… jaao kuchh aur try kar lo… (return to your holes, mice, else Gabbar will come… this is how you give a threat, filmy style… I am not scared of #Boycott_Kangana trend… Go and try something else).” While many came out to support the “Jhansi Ki Rani”, most Twitter users were outraged by her social media shenanigans. “Bahut dhanyavaad mere doston ki jo #Jhansi_Ki_Rani_Kangana ko top trends mein trend kar rahein hain (Thank you my friends who made #Jhansi_Ki_Rani_Kangana a top trend,” she wrote to her supporters. Continuing with her rant all through Sunday night and Monday morning, she posted another tweet which read, “#Jhansi_Ki_Rani_Kangana is the leading trend leaving all fake paid trends behind, proof affection is not bought its earned, Hope movie mafia understand… I am not a patch on her but this fills my heart with immense gratitude.”

Pakistani journalist Mahwash Ajaz reacted to the incident stating, “Gotta say the sheer grace of Alia Bhatt to not stoop down to this level and break a bottle on someone’s head Safeena Style?” A furious Kanga retorted with, “You think Kangana won’t split her head into two, Rani LaxmiBai Style? Dear Pakis, stay out of your business… back off!” Reposting this exchange between the two women, one user Kiara wrote, “Kangana called out Rajeev Masand calling sushant a skirt chaser and rightfully so, Sushant didn’t deserve that. why is she displaying the same behaviour as RM by calling Ranbir a shirt chaser? the second tweet threatens physical violence and contains a racial slur #kanganavirus.” Kangana went as far as to calling Deepika a “self-proclaimed mental health patient” and Ranbir a “skirt chaser”.

An angry Twitter user wrote, “She shut be put behind bars #KanganaVirus.” Another added, “There is no doubt that Nepotism is bad, but Kangana, you are worse!!” A witty post read, “Already whole world is fighting from #coronavirus now there is one more virus which spreading like wild fire known as #KanganaVirus kindly come up with good vaccine to wipe this out!” Well, as you sow so shall you reap! “I boycott all of Kangana’s upcoming films and debates No one can become a heroine by hating the constitutional reservation system and the SC, ST and OBCs. #KanganaVirus#Boycott_kangana,” read a post. Some even accused the Indian cinema starlet for using Sushan’t death to her advantage. “For all those idiots who thought that #KanganaRanaut was fighting for #SushantSinghRajput See the reality of this so called sympathy, Why did you deny a movie with @itsSSR when he was alive? Your own career is because of #Nepotism. #KanganaVirus#ShameOnKangana#Boycott_Kangana,” penned a user, providing proof that nepotism exists everywhere, even in Kangana’s career to a great extent since she was supposedly introduced into Bollywood through Aditya Pancholi, rumoured as her ex-boyfriend, and her first film Gangster was produced by Mahesh Bhatt. A post even demanded for a movie to be made on #boycottKangana. “And now what’s trending?? It’s #Boycott_Kangana. This can be the base of some movie with extreme twists and turns. #KanganaVirus.”
