The financial hub of Pakistan and the commercial capital of Pakistan, is in for some good news. The city has recently witnessed a marked improvement in its law and order situation as well as its ranking on the World Crime Index. The city, which was once ranked 6th in 2014, now stands at 103 on the index.
The news was unveiled during a top-level meeting at the CM House where the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah revealed the news. The meeting was held to review law and order of the entire province. Among other officials at the top-tier meeting, Karachi’s Corps Commander Lt General Humayun Aziz and Director-General of Sindh Rangers Major General Omer Ahmed Bukhari attended the meeting.
The World Crime Index surveys the rate of criminal activities in 396 cities around the world. In 2015, Karachi landed at number 10 on the index, 26 in 2016, 47th position in 2017, 50th in 2018, and increased to 71 in 2019. And now, as of October 2020 Karachi stands at 103 on the index.
Inspector General of Sindh Police, Mushtaq Ahmed Mehar, informed the high-level meeting that now Cape Town was at 19th place, Mexico City on 29th, Kuala Lumpur on 38th, Houston on 50th, while Delhi stands at 71. Caracas stands at the first position while Qatar stands last.

Further, the CM said that Karachi could be made a safer place by implementing the “Safe City project” envisaging comprehensive real-time electronic surveillance of the city through a network of 10,000 high-powered cameras. He went on to add that initially an amount of Rs10 billion had been earmarked for the project, however the cost later escalated to Rs20 billion.
