Kashf, a television show written by Imran Nazir and directed by Danish Nawaz, stars Hira Mani, Junaid Khan, Waseem Abbas, Hajra Khan, Saleem Mairaj, Lubna Aslam, Sabeena Farooq, Munza Arif and Samina Ahmed. Kashf tells the story of an eponymously named woman who has dreams that later end up coming true. Kashf’s father (Waseem Abbas) is a greedy good-for-nothing man and Kashf’s engaged to Wajdaan (Junaid Khan) who is hopelessly in love with her.
The story so far has been quite exciting and has various twists and turns save one or two episodes in the middle. Kashf is now being exploited by her father who has taken her to Matiuallah’s astaana (Matiullah is played by the excellent Saleem Mairaj). Matiullah plans to use Kashf as a money-making tool. Matiullah was also previously married to Kashf’s aunt (Hajra Khan) which makes matters even more complicated.

In this episode, her aunt (Wajdaan’s mom) is looking for Kashf’s approval for her daughter’s potential marriage. Kashf had previously dreamt something of a warning which the aunt had ignored. But now that she has learnt her lesson, she considers Kashf to be quite the oracle. Kashf dreams that while the marriage should be fine, she fears that she may lose Wajdaan to her scheming sister (Sabeena Farooq).

The best part about Kashf continues to be the chemistry between Hira Mani and Junaid Khan. There’s an innocence and haplessness about their love which I find deeply endearing.
Another great aspect of Kashf is its balanced storyline. While it has plenty of kitchen politics, there is enough emphasis on the struggles between the male protagonists (though I really wish Saleem Mairaj’s wig wasn’t so obviously fake). It’s a balanced storyline and it works well within the plot. We need to see more such tv shows where there’s enough importance given to all the angles of the plotline.
