Kashf Episode 8: Nothing New

Hira Mani in Kashf

Kashf is a tv show that has had a very strong start. Written by Imran Nazir and directed by Danish Nawaz, the tv show stars Hira Mani, Junaid Khan, Saleem Mairaj and Waseem Abbas. Hira Mani plays a young woman named Kashf who dreams spiritual dreams and they end up coming true.

Junaid Khan in Kashf

It’s important to understand the context behind Kashf’s socioeconomic status and why people in that strata are prone to resort to economic choices that they ‘ideologically’ don’t really align with. A similar struggle happens to Kashf in this episode. Her father (played by Waseem Abbas) is a good-for-nothing father and husband. He has asked Kashf to sit on an astaana (for which he takes money from an evil man – played by Saleem Mairaj) where people come and take taweez or amulets for better luck and life. Kashf says this goes against her principles. She ends up giving people advice to pray and have faith.

There has been little movement in this episode apart from this little snippet. Wajdaan (Junaid Khan) is still pining for her. Kashf’s younger still hates her and wants Wajdaan for herself. Lead actors continue to impress and hold the episode together but the writing is stale and stagnant for the most part as by the 8th episode there’s little else that the viewers can look forward to in the next episode (the 9th episode’s promo doesn’t really offer much either).

Here’s hoping the other episodes bring us some relief and excitement at the same time – because so far it’s been very ho – hum.
