Kevin Spacey sued for sexually assaulting two teenagers in the 80s

Oscar winning actor, Kevin Spacey made headlines and created a stir across social media when he was accused in a civil lawsuit this week, of sexual assault and battery in the 1980s by actor Anthony Rapp and a second, unnamed person when both plaintiffs were about 14. The suit was filed in a New York state court in Manhattan and is pertaining to the same alleged incident that Rapp first recounted in an interview back in 2017.

It was this interview which shed light on Kevin Spacey and led to his downfall from Hollywood. When Kevin Spacey was reached for a comment, he did not immediately respond. He has since taken a back seat from the public eye. The actor has won Oscars for the films American Beauty and The Usual Suspects as well as a Golden Globe for the political TV series, House Of Cards.

When the allegations came out in 2017, Kevin Spacey said he did not recall the encounter that was described by Anthony Rapp but added that, “If I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior.” It was also back in 2017 that Kevin Spacey, 61, came out as gay.

Anothony Rapp is recognised for his role in the Broadway musical Rent and had alleged in the lawsuit that Spacey “engaged in an unwanted sexual advance” with him when he was 14, during a party at Spacey’s home in 1986. The second person, identified only as C D, alleged that he and Spacey had oral and anal sex and engaged in other sexual acts on several occasions in the early 1980s when the plaintiff was approximately 14 years old.

Both men are seeking unspecified damages for emotional distress.

When Kevin Spacey was initially accused in 2017, it became part of the #MeToo movement against sexual misconduct. The movement became so powerful that it resulted in Spacey being dropped from Netflix and all his scenes from the film All the Money in the World were re-shot with actor Christopher Plummer.
