Khuda Aur Mohabbat Episode 16: Tragedy Strikes, Leaving Mahi In Shock

“Khuda Aur Mohabbat” continues to rake in viewership and keep its audience glued to its story of a “love story” that was never meant to happen. Feroze Khan and Iqra Aziz have won hearts as Farhad and Mahi, supported by a grand star cast including Junaid Khan, Mirza Zain Baig, Tooba Siddiqui, Usman Peerzada, Rubina Ashraf, Sunita Marshal, Sohail Sameer, Hina Bayat and many others. Directed by Syed Wajahat Hussain and written by Hashim Nadeem Khan, “Khuda Aur Mohabbat” has taken a new turn with Farhad’s death and Mahi’s marriage to Taimur.

In episode 16, we see the remainder of Taimur and Mahi’s marriage. It’s such a bittersweet moment to see how handsome and how happy Taimur is to have Mahi as his bride. He genuinely feels blessed with Mahi entering his life. Unfortunately, Farhad has become a permanent fixture in Mahi’s mind, his curse dancing in Mahi’s head, his vision appearing before her. She is fixated on his words, wondering if a dead man’s curse can destroy her entire life. The wedding moments are beautiful and yet carry a foreboding feel, watching the happiness between these two families and knowing it will end in grief. Taimur is shot dead while driving the car on their way home, leaving his family and Mahi devastated.

One must take pause to acknowledge Noor Ul Hassan’s performance as this Fakeer. Whether one agrees with this sort of character or belief is besides the point, but Noor Ul Hassan’s ominous words and predictions are almost fear-inducing and make him seem like a chess player of sorts, all the pieces falling into place just as he predicted. Back at Farhad’s home, his family continues to grief his death. If Farhad has lost his memory, that would be one thing. But if Farhad is purposely playing dead and causing his family so much grief intentionally, this is a new low for this character. We will have to see how this plays out with Farhad making his reappearance again next week.

It’s not far-fetched to see how Farhad’s words could have such a deep impact on Mahi – not only does she believe Farhad’s death is her fault, but now she also recognizes that Taimur’s death occurred because of her own family’s enmities. This is a tough burden for her mentally and Mahi’s mental health is seen deteriorating. Logically, one can look at this and recognize that Farhad’s death simply never happened and Mahi’s brother is responsible for Taimur’s death, but Mahi genuinely believes Farhad’s curse has surrounded her life and she is now “bad luck.”

Iqra Aziz’s performance is the highlight of this episode as she takes center stage. Mahi’s shock, her grief, her tears and her sheer panic at potentially causing all this grief around her is brilliantly portrayed by Iqra. Up until now, Feroze Khan has been the focus of the show, but with his absence, Iqra Aziz has taken center stage and has been given her moment to truly shine. One could stop and discuss all the “problematic” things with this show, but a show cannot be considered problematic until the message of the show has been revealed. And considering Farhad’s “curse” has not come true in any way (again, Taimur was shot due to Mahi’s family rivalries), the story could take any turn from this point on. This episode picked up from the last few and came across as much more eventful with some great performances from everyone from Iqra Aziz to Junaid Khan to Waseem Abbas and Asma Abbas. With Feedi making his return next week, there’s a lot to look forward to as the story continues to play out.
