Khuda Aur Mohabbat Season 3, Episode 1: Does The Premiere Live Up To Expectations?

“Khuda Aur Mohabbat” is a show that has been beloved by Pakistani drama fans and is hailed as one of the classics. While season 1 was a runaway hit, season 2 also fared well, both seasons starring Imran Abbas and Sadia Khan. This time around, the show has once again been written by Hashim Nadeem Khan, directed by Syed Wajahat Hussain and produced by 7th Sky Entertainment. However, the show returns with a brand new star-studded cast, including Feroze Khan, Iqra Aziz, Junaid Khan, Mirza Zain Baig, Sunita Marshal, Javed Sheikh, Seemi Pasha, Waseem Abbas, Tooba Siddiqui, Momina Iqbal and several others. Does the first episode manage to live up to the expectations that come with this series?

Episode 1 essentially focuses on introducing viewers to the main characters of the show and highlighting these character traits. Farhad (Feroze Khan) is shown as a boy from a small town who is aimless, disappointing his father Taufeeq (Wasim Abbas) with his lack of focus towards his education. Farhad is a sweet, harmless, but almost self-destructive character, a boy with a lot of ambition to do great things, but unwilling to put the effort in to get there. On the other end, we are also introduced to Mahi (Iqra Aziz), a vibrant and spoiled girl from an influential family who arrives at her childhood best friend Rida’s (Meherbano) home for her wedding. It’s clear that while Mahi is likeable and the life of the party, she also has a side that is inherently self-absorbed. While Farhad and Mahi have not yet met, their meeting is inevitable to kick-start this love story. Feroze Khan is as endearing as ever, Farhad being a complex character – one who is problematic and yet instantly lovable. Iqra Aziz is charismatic as always.

The first episode is a fun, refreshing watch. There isn’t much in terms of story just yet as the characters are being laid out for viewers, but the episode (and show overall) has been shot on a grand scale and is simply stunning visually. The cast is also impressive and only adds to the excitement to see how the story plays out. We are introduced to Sikandar (Junaid Khan), a feudal lord, in this episode as well, along with Taimoor (Mirza Zain Baig), who falls in love with Mahi at first sight. It isn’t clear how Taimoor fits into this scenario at present, but both these men will feature prominently in this love story. “Khuda Aur Mohabbat” is off to a wonderful start, the first episode setting the stage for an enjoyable (and tragic) ride.
