Khuda Aur Mohabbat Season 3 Episode 17: Feroze Khan’s Farhad Makes His Re-Entry

“Khuda Aur Mohabbat” has been creating records with viewership, surpassing even the TRP records previously set by “Mere Paas Tum Ho.” With lavish sets, stunning costumes, beautiful cinematography, an intense story of “love” and brilliant performers, “Khuda Aur Mohabbat” is a magnum opus for Pakistani television. Starring Feroze Khan, Iqra Aziz, Sunita Marshal, Sohail Sameer, Meher Bano, Usman Peerzada, Rubina Ashraf, Hina Bayat, Junaid Khan, Tooba Siddiqui and many others, the story has been written by Hashim Nadeem Khan and directed by Syed Wajahat Hussain.

While Farhad (Feroze Khan) has been missing from the scene for the last several episodes, presumed dead by both Mahi’s (Iqra Aziz) family and his own, he finally makes his reappearance in this episode – and what a relief it is, as Farhad’s “fake” death became too much misery to digest. There isn’t any explanation given for his disappearance, rather he is simply seen by Rumana (Tooba Siddiqui) and Munazzah Arif’s character on the train on their way back to the haveli. Rumana is seen wondering about this wanderer, feeling as though he has a special aura and plans to visit him after meeting Sikandar (Junaid Khan) at the haveli to offer her condolences. What role will Rumana play in connecting the dots and bringing Farhad and Mahi face-to-face again?

Mahi’s circumstances are dire. While her mother-in-law (Hina Bayat) has been a genuine, kind, loving woman through the course of the show, the death of her son has consumed her, left her distraught. And it does not escape her for a moment that Taimur (Mirza Zain Baig) has been murdered for no fault of his own, rather due to the enemies of Mahi’s father and brother. And while Mahi has decided to remain at Taimur’s home for the duration of her “iddat,” it’s heartbreaking nonetheless to think about Mahi’s future under this roof.

Hina Bayat and Iqra Aziz are the star performers in this episode. While Hina Bayat’s “Maa Ji” may be falling into an “evil saas” mode, this is one time when being an evil saas may just be warranted. This is a woman who was kind, full of love and laughter – and it has all been taken away from her, her son being murdered, all because she chose to get Taimur married to Mahi, a girl from a family with many enemies. While Mahi is blaming herself for his death as well and punishing herself not only for Taimur’s death, but also Farhad’s, the pain and grief of a mother is unmeasurable. Both ladies do a fantastic job depicting the grief their characters are going through, stealing the show and leaving a lasting impact.

Overall, “Khuda Aur Mohabbat” isn’t paritcuarly action-packed this week, but marks its return back to being engrossing, storyline and performance driven. It’s wonderful to see “Feedi” back on the scene and while Mahi’s grief is terrible, it does open the door for the story to grow from this point onward. Tooba Siddiqui’s Rumana is also an intriguing character and it will be interesting to see how her connection with Farhad comes into play.
