Khwab Nagar Ki Shehzadi Episodes 58 – 60: This Mess Just Gets Messier

“Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi” is the gift that keeps on giving – giving stupidity, that is. It’s not simply one character, but the entire lot of them, each more brainless than the next. The basic premise of the story has been Saim (Mikaal Zulfiqar) cheating on his educated, intelligent, beautiful doctor wife Meera (Mashal Khan) with their house help Sehar (Anmol Baloch). The concept was interesting and the story went on to show, though very exaggerated, how society views such relationships. Unfortunately, the story has gone haywire from that point onward. This drama stars Mikaal Zulfiqar, Mashal Khan, Anmol Baloch, Sajida Syed, Aly Khan, Ayesha Gul, Ayesha Toor and several other talented actors, has been written by Ali Moeen and Rehana Aftab and directed by Syed Ramish Rizvi.

Episodes 58 through 60 essentially focus on Imran and his accident, which causes him to lose both his legs. Imran is now an invalid, which is a cruel twist of fate, considering he was looking forward to his future in Dubai. Hearing this, Sehar and her father are overjoyed and celebrating, another indication of simply how crooked and twisted they both are. While Imran and Samina struggle with their new circumstances, Sehar also unleashes one more blow – revealing Imran’s truth to Samina, the truth that he was planning on taking his mother to Dubai and wanted to leave Samina behind. Of course, this is a difficult situation to forgive and Samina struggles with this. But ultimately, she does realize she has nowhere else to go and with Imran’s apologies, they decide to repent for their past. This leads to Samina deciding to give Mashal all the proof she had stored in her phone – but she is caught by her father, who breaks her phone. Samina gives those pieces of the phone to Meera and asks her to get the phone repaired to get the proof, hoping this will serve as her repentance.

The problem with this show is that the characters are simply not intelligent. Saim is an absolute oaf of a husband, not understanding the nature of either wife and despite hearing conversations with his own ears, choosing to believe lies. Then on the other end, we have the angelic Meera, a hard-working, intelligent doctor who insists on enduring abuse for the sake of her son – a son who doesn’t want anything to do with his father and wants his mother to leave him. How does this make any sense? Does she have any self-respect? The answer is no. And now let’s come to Samina, a woman who wants to “repent” and yet knows her family. Why then does she insist on telling her family what she intends on doing? Did she have a weapon to hold them off? It’s absolutely ridiculous watching her father break her phone right in front of her eyes after Samina waves her phone in his face as though she’s invincible. And last but not least, let’s discuss our “villain herself, Sehar. While Sehar started off as a mildly innocent girl caught up in her manipulative father’s plans, she has now transformed into an ultra-villain, most prominently having murdered her mother-in-law (Sajida Syed) and laughed about it behind closed doors. Now with episodes 58 – 60, let’s add blackmailing her own family members, threatening them with dire consequences, mocking her own brother-in-law’s tragedy and now, finally, locking her young stepson outside the house gate to fend for himself.

This is a show that’s mildly entertaining to watch, but very much so in a “turn your brain off and enjoy the madness” sense. One has to wonder what actors like Mikaal and Mashal are thinking when they sign shows like this. To make matters worse, it’s a show that refuses to end. The attempts to delay the truth coming out have been ridiculous, from Imran’s accident to now Samina’s phone being broken. When will the madness end?
