Laapata Episode 6: The Story Finally Takes Off As Shams Goes Missing

As soon as the promos of “Laapata” went on-air, viewers found themselves anxiously awaiting the drama. Starring Ali Rehman Khan, Ayeza Khan, Sarah Khan and Gohar Rasheed in lead roles, the show has been written and directed by Khizer Idrees. With two episodes a week, the first two weeks had the show take a slow start with the story taking its time to build up. While the initial episodes felt mildly underwhelming, episode six has given the show the kick-start it needed to move full-speed ahead.

In episode 6, Shams (Ali Rehman Khan) is missing with his family desperately searching for him. Both Falak (Sarah Khan) and Geeti (Ayeza Khan) are distraught, Falak a loyal and faithful companion while Geeti is seen repenting for her past actions. Ali Rehman Khan gives a fabulous performance as Shams in this episode. Shams has been trying to reform his life, ready to pull himself together to make Falak happy and start a happy life together. However, the time has come for Shams to pay for his actions and he finds himself caught up in a mess when the police officer who arrested him dies and Shams is prosecuted in a terrorism case. The reality of this story isn’t lost on viewers – how many small-time criminals must end up as fall men for larger crimes? This is where the story really begins, with Shams now “laapata” (missing).

The story takes a leap of two years and while the family hasn’t forgotten Shams and continue to mourn his loss, life has not stopped. This is the strength of the show as it depicts the reality of life. Life moves on despite the grief individuals endure. Both Falak and Geeti have created successful lives for themselves. Falak is a successful badminton player while also working a full-time job. The family rallies around Falak as she wins a trophy at her tournament. But Falak hasn’t forgotten Shams. She may be content in her career while also being pursued by Daniyal (Gohar Rasheed), but her heart and loyalty still belong to Shams as she keeps hope alive that they will be reunited. Sarah Khan is the star of “Laapata” with the strongest role and one that is an inspiration for girls, a woman who is family-oriented, but also knows her own worth and how to succeed in life. Gohar Rasheed’s Daniyal is an interesting addition, but his role is still a mystery at this point.

Ayeza Khan’s Geeti has seemingly matured over two years, her TikTok career a success as she is now a known face. Invited to morning shows, Geeti spouts some mildly intellectual, meaningful advice. However, one shouldn’t be fooled – Geeti is still the same manipulative girl on the inside. After Geeti meets her friend’s fiancé, she begins to entice him and appears to start her own affair with him. Geeti is always out for herself and dreams big – and will do anything to get what she wants. Ayeza Khan is doing a great job in this role, playing a girl who is part humorous and part dangerous.

Overall, episode 6 has put “Laapata” on an exciting track. How will both girls move forward in life? And how will Shams escape his predicament – or will he? One thing is certain – the entire cast has put their best efforts into their performances this week and the story leaves the audience eagerly anticipating the next episode.
