Legendary Cricket Kapil Dev Undergoes Angioplasty Following Heart Attack

One of the best sportsmen to have graced Indian cricket, legendary player Kapil Dev suffered a major heart attack on Thursday night. India’s first World Cup-winning captain underwent an angioplasty on Friday after complaining of excruciating chest pain and is expected to be discharged in the next couple of days, revealed the hospital where he is currently admitted. “Cricketer Kapil Dev came to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute (Okhla Road) emergency department at 1:00 am on 23rd October with a complaint of chest pain. He was evaluated and an emergency coronary angioplasty was performed in the middle of night,” shared a hospital official.

The insider added, “Currently, he is admitted in ICU and under close supervision of Dr Atul Mathur and his team. Kapil Dev is stable now and he is expected to get discharged in a couple of days.” Kapil’s close friend, former Test Player and Indian Cricket Association President, Ashok Malhotra, stated that he was on the road to recovery and his condition was stable.

Malhotra said, “He is feeling okay now. I just spoke to his wife Romi. He was feeling uneasy yesterday. He is undergoing checkups at the hospital as we speak.” Cricket lies at the heart of Indian people who often look up masters of the sport as role models and inspirations. The same holds true for Kapil, who has garnered a massive fan following in the country. So much so, that a Bollywood film based on his life and World Cup victory is also going to be released soon. Titled ’83, the project stars A-lister power couple, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in titular toles. Both stars spent a lot of time with Kapil and Romi in order to learn more about their personal and professional lives, relationship with one another and the events that led to India’s whopping win in 1983.
