Lux Style Awards 2020: Twitter Users Weigh In On Their Favourite Nominees

Following the COVID-19 outbreak in Pakistan, the organisers behind the prestigious LUX Style Awards (LSAs) announced the postponement of the event, citing they will be redirecting their funds to the charity-based Akhuwat Foundation. “Lux Style Awards has decided to not go ahead with the grand awards ceremony in 2020. We will instead redirect our show funds to partner with the Akhuwat Foundation in order to support the impacted members of our entertainment and fashion industry,” read the initial statement. The 20th edition is now expected to take place in a virtual ceremony later this year, with the winners list slated to be announced on the occasion.

This week, the LSA team dropped its award nominations in 28 different categories. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the voting with the jurors for the four categories of fashion, music, film and TV was conducted online and supervised by auditors. From Model of the Year to Singer of the Year, Best Emerging Talent to Best Film, Best Actor to Best Makeup Artist and Achievement in Fashion Design, five nominees have been selected for each accolade. Twitterati has now added to the LSA 2020 excitement and here is what they have to say! Some users have also expressed disappointment about their favourite personality or drama/film not making the cut.

Many have called out the LSAs for nominating Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar for Meray Paas Tum Ho in the Best Writer Category, following his recent inappropriate remarks about women. “Not that the Lux Style Awards mean anything but they do have major reach. Don’t forget that despite all the disgusting misogynist things he said, Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar is STILL nominated for an award at the Lux Style Awards. #LuxStyleAwards shouldn’t be forgotten,” wrote a user. Some rooted for Imran Ashraf to win Best TV Actor following his stellar stint in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi. “I literally cannot decide on who should get the best actor award because these two were both so powerful. THE EYES. Uffffff. Give them all the awards please. #LuxStyleAwards,” read a tweet. Another user was of the opinion that actor Sonya Hussyn should have been nominated. #SonyaHussain should have been nominated for #IshqZehenaseeb Having said that, pretty solid nominations. Tough to decide who should win or who deserves to win. #LuxStyleAwards,” penned the user, adding that the nominations list was pretty apt and on-point.

Journalist Sadaf Haider tweeted, “Unbelievable that #LuxStyleAwards are ignoring a wonderful well-made serial like #Ehdewafa??” She remained unapologetic in her stance that TV serial Aangan did not deserve multiple nominations. Some users cheered on Naimal Khawar and Usman Mukhtar for their spectacular roles in Ana, bagging them the nominations in the Best Emerging Talent category. “@MukhtarHoonMein. I’m so happy for you and @Naimalkhawarr! My IzzAl deserve it. #LuxStyleAwards#usmanmukhtar#naimalkhawarabbasi,” shared one of the TV show’s fans. Users on the micro-blogging site were also seen urging people to vote. “A genuine request for everyone who will be voting, please please please vote for Ahmed Ali Akbar for best film actor! he is by far the most deserving in that category. let talent win over popularity & looks. #LuxStyleAwards,” tweeted a user.

Others suggested the inclusion of a new LSA category too. A user named Osama Ahmed posted, “There should be a category of a Negative role too in Lux Style Awards, like Bilal Abbas for Cheekh, Imran Ashraf for Inkaar and Adnan Siddiqui for Mere Paas Tum Ho.” A bevvy of internet users feel that actors such as Iqra Aziz, Imran Ashraf, Bilal Abbas and Sajal Aly should get their due following a great career-related 2019. “I really don’t care about the others but LSA better give these four their due! #LuxStyleAwards,” revealed a user, with several others hooting for the same. The post included images of all four celebrities from their respective acting roles. “I mean Rehan Sheikh was great in Inkaar but did you watch Sami Khan in it? The range he showed was brilliant! It’s so sad how he doesn’t get enough recognition for his work #LuxStyleAwards,” wrote another user, adding Sami is underrated in the industry. But on a whole, Twitter users were very pleased with most of the nominations. “The LSA nominations has got me happy for no reason, but I love all the nominees to be honest. Let the best win! 28 categories, that’s a lot! It’s a gonna be a visual ceremony, with no given date. Hope they award well deserved ones,” posted a user.
