The much-awaited Bollywood film, Sadak 2; which is a sequel to the 90s cult classic with the same name is now under fire for plagiarising the music of Pakistani artist Shezan Saleem aka JO-G. The artist, who is the son of veteran musician and singer, Saleem Javaid, took to Twitter to announce the news and shared a video in which he compared a song played in the trailer with a composition of his release in 2011. He took note of the plagiarised content just hours after the trailer for Sadak 2 was released.

While JO-G can not be seen in the video, he can be heard talking about it as he makes the comparison between both the videos. “A trailer for a Bollywood movie called Sadak 2 has just been released, and there is a song in it called Ishq Kamaal,” he can be heard saying. “After listening to it, I realised that it sounds like a composition I had produced for a friend around 11 years ago. The friend’s name is Zaid Khan. I think they’ve copied it because not only the melody but the music is also very similar,” he continues.
He played the choruses of both the songs after which he can be heard questioning the audience, “What does the public have to say?” Netizens were quick to respond to the tweet and blamed the film and its producers for plagiarism and for wronging the artist. Some told JO-G to file a case against the makers of the film.

Many comments and responses were targeted at the Bhatt family, saying that they had been prolific in copying songs from across the border. Many also said that a case should be filed against the film. According to Pooja Bhatt however, the song Ishq Kamaal was written by a music teacher from Chandigarh. “Sadak 2 gives birth to a brand new talent in the form of a music teacher from Chandigarh who came to our office with no prior appointment, a dream, a harmonium and a brilliant song called Ishq Kamaal that was absorbed into the film on first hearing by my father,” she wrote on a post in social media.
