They say difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations and the proverb is very apt in the case of activist Malala Yousafzai. Starting off from humble beginnings and a turbulent early life, she has undoubtedly become an inspiration for women and children around the world. The Nobel Peace Prize Laureate has added yet another feather to her cap after being shortlisted for an upcoming United Nations film, which will primarily deal with combating problems such as poverty, inequality and the biggest challenge of the 21st century – the Covid-19 pandemic. Several other celebrities and public personalities have made the cut including the likes of singing sensation Beyonce.
Titled Nations United: Urgent Solutions for Urgent Times, the short film will feature the performances of Queen Bey and singer Burna Boy. Education campaigner and UN Messenger of Peace, Yousafzai, UN goodwill ambassadors actor Don Cheadle and actor Michelle Yeoh, and UNESCO special peace envoy Forest Whitaker, are also set to make an appearance in the project.

The 30-minute film is scheduled for a global broadcast and will premiere on the United Nation’s YouTube channel on September 19, the UN announced on Monday. The international body revealed that the film will set out the actions needed to build a better world as the coronavirus pandemic threatens global progress to end extreme poverty, achieve gender equality, promote human rights, tackle injustice and address climate change. “The film will take audiences on a dynamic exploration of the times we live in, the multiple tipping points our planet faces, and the interventions that could transform our world over the next 10 years,” the UN claimed on its website. UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed will also appear in the film. The website further added that Oscar-winning actor Julia Roberts will also host a radio broadcast and podcast version of the show.
