MDCAT 2020 To Be Held On November 29: #DelayMdcat Trends On Twitter As Students Voice Safety Concerns Amid Covid-19

The Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) will be held on November 29, as per schedule, under the strict implementation of Covid-19 standard operating procedures. While addressing a press conference earlier this week, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on health, Dr Faisal Sultan, revealed that all entry and professional exams will be held according to plan. Last week, the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) had announced that it would conduct the MDCAT 2020 on November 29.

“Upon compliance with the directions of the Honourable Sindh High Court, the National MDCAT will be held on 29th November 2020,” the organization said. The announcement has led to a great amount of backlash from MDCAT candidates on Twitter, who are asking for it to be postponed until coronavirus cases decrease in Pakistan.

The hashtags #DelayMdcat and #mdcatianslivesmatter have been trending on the micro-blogging platform since today morning. “Is the mdcat test a joke? Why the government isn’t taking it seriously? It’s not the matter of one student’s life but a matter of thousands of students who will appear in the test,” wrote a furious user, tagging politicians Jibran Nasir and Shafqat Mahmood, as well as PM Imran Khan. “Our health is important,” added another. A similar post read, Government is not giving permission to PDM to host a big protest because of the high risk of corona but they are conducting MDCAT because they think corona will not attack MDCAT students. Hypocrisy of the government at its best.”

When he said the exams will be delayed it means all of the exams including MDCAT. PMC must revise its policy. #DWMOfficial#mdcat2020#StudentsLivesMatter.” Students have also been protesting via aggressive messages. One of them states, “They are afraid of our power!! Keep tweeting and raising your voice!! We simply aren’t normal human beings am I right?” A picture showing the situation of MDCAT examination venues in the past has gone viral on Twitter. It shows a mob of students standing in close proximity, with almost not breathing space in between. Uploading the image, a user penned, According to Twitterati, this is the photo describing the state of #MDCAT arrangements in 2019!!

@Shafqat_Mahmood sir, do you expect there would be ANY SOP compliance this year – When not in 2019 without #COVID19? If ALL educational institutions closing — WHY NOT ENTRY TESTS?!”
