Meesha Shafi To Appear In Coke Studio 13: Here Is What the Internet Thinks

It seems like Meesha Shafi has opted to stay out of the public eye following her longstanding tussle with fellow musician Ali Zafar. While there has been a no-show from her side during the multiple court hearings held during the course of this year, she has now revealed on Twitter that she will be returning to the music front with Coke Studio 13. Taking to the micro-blogging site, Shafi wrote, “Beshak izzat dene wali zaat sirf Allah kee hai. Rohail Hyatt and I about to spin some musical magic together after a decade of Jugni, Chori Chori, Dashte Tanhai and Ishq Aap Bhi Awalla on the platform that changed my life forever.” Her comeback has fared mix reactions on social media. While some social media users cannot wait for Shafi to set the stage on fire, others have a lot of questions for her.

Diva Magazine was the first to repost Shafi’s post. Instagram users are divided in their feelings about Meesha’s inclusion in the thirteenth edition of Coke Studio. Drawing parallels between the Shafi-Ali and Amber Heard-Jonny Depp case, a user commented, “I don’t know what’s going on here. Just like Johnny Depp is out of Fantastic Beasts and his ex is in Aquaman, she is here in Coke Studio and no one would ask her why she said things about Ali Zafar that had no truth in them at all.” Another added, “Coke studio choro pehle court me Ali Zafar ko face krlo (Forget about Coke Studio. First face Ali Zafar in court).” Taking a dig at the Aya Lariye crooner, another post read, “After accusing the father of a daughter, did you think you are going to earn izzat (respect)? Really? Want to tell you ‘court studio’ is also waiting for you.” Jumping to her rescue, a user penned, “Controversy aside her voice is wow.”

Another added, “Dear Meesha, know this. Almost everyone I know sees you as a symbol of cunningness and evil and that’s how you will be remembered always no matter how many Coke studios you do. Stop passifying yourself with these false assurances. Also shocked at Rohail Hyatt. Thought he was into Sufism and all.” Calling out Hyatt for joining forces with Shafi, an Instagram comment read, “No one expects moral high ground from corporate entities like Coke or Pepsi but you lost a fan today Rohail Hyat. Giving space to a slanderer and an alleged criminal, who misused our sacred plight as women for her own agenda is indirectly becoming a party to the crime. No more Coke. No more Coke studio.” But there were many of Shafi’s fans who cannot wait to watch her perform. “I only love her because of Dashte Tahnai , the way she sung it was unbelievable. Still in my playlist,” wrote a user on the photo-sharing platform. “Meesha Shafi made it to the Coke studio lineup for 2020! COVID-19 isn’t the worst thing that happened this year!”

Twitter was also flooded with posts cheering for Shafi. “So happy to see Rohail Hayat bringing Meesha Shafi for coke studio season 13, and not Ali Zafar,” a user tweeted. Echoing the sentiments, another added, “omg omg omg omg are meesha shafi and Bohemia collaborating for coke studio?????” A user expressed excitement, writing, “Beauty what a voice and expression body language everything rocks <3 — listening to Bholay Bhalay Sayyan – Meesha Shafi – Coke Studio 9.” A similar post read, “Backlogging all of Meesha Shafi’s coke studio covers, she has some absolute bangers. I think Dasht e Tanhai from season 5 is my fave.” A user inquired, “So Meesha Shafi can come to Pakistan for the next coke studio edition, but couldn’t come to get her harasser punished by court? Lolz.” Another tweet lashed out at Shafi. “#Meeshashafi has done nothing for Pakistan. She doesn’t deserve any awards…besides couple of coke studio gigs she has nothing to her credit.”
