Mehwish Hayat, Hassan Sheheryar Yasin Join Pakistani Academy Selection Committee 2020

Actor Mehwish Hayat has undoubtedly made a name in the industry. From her stellar performances in films to being conferred with the prestigious Tamgha-i-Imtiaz this year to addressing grave subjects on public platforms, she has become a sought-after name in entertainment. On the fashion front, Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, commonly known as HSY, has conquered local and international waters, becoming one of the best couturiers today. Together, the powerful duo, has now been selected for the Pakistani Academy Selection Committee 2020. Both Hayat and Yasin shared the exciting news on their respective Instagram handles.

 

The Load Wedding actor took to Instagram to confirm the news. “I am honoured to be part of the Oscar Selection Committee for this year alongside our own two-time Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy,” she wrote. Hayat added that she is looking forward to watching the nominated films and is excited to see which one will be selected as Pakistan’s official submission to the Oscars.

She continued, “At least this is one way that we can be putting a positive image of our country and highlighting our talent on the world stage.” Yasin was also elated about being selected for the prestigious committee. Talking about the same, he wrote, “Humbled and proud to be part of the Oscar committee for 2020,” he wrote. Giving a shout-out to other notable members in the committee, HSY added, “The committee will be chaired by two-time Academy Award and Emmy winning documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and includes film director Asadul Haq, actor Mehwish Hayat and musician Faisal Kapadia.” Last year, Kamal Khan’s Laal Kabootar made headlines after being selected as Pakistan’s official submission to the Oscars. Asim Abbasi’s Cake, Farhan Alam’s Saawan and Anjum Shahzad’s Mah e Mir also made the cut in the previous years.
