Mere Ban Jao Episode 23: Zaki and Azmia’s Begin Their Complicated New Journey

“Mere Ban Jao” has had its ups and downs, sure, but it has also consistently been an intriguing story rooted in reality with a dash of fictional scenarios.  How many women have had past relationships – either secret ones or ones recognized by society – where they may have indulged in behaviors they are not proud of?  Young women, especially those in the subcontinent where dating isn’t actively encouraged, can often find themselves agreeing to actions they may not agree with mentally and this is the story of “Mere Ban Jao.”  Starring Zahid Ahmed, Kinza Hashmi and Azfar Rehman in lead roles, the story has been written by Samira Fazal and directed by Syed Ahmed Kamran.

In episode 23, Azmia (Kinza Hashmi) has accepted her fate, prepared to destroy her reputation once again by running away, this time to marry Fardeen (Azfar Rehman).  However, as we saw last week, Azmia’s mother overheard Fardeen’s plot and she is now ready to save her daughter from a disastrous fate.  She has a conversation with Zaki (Zahid Ahmed) and the two conspire to find a solution to save Azmia from Fardeen – a solution which involves Azmia marrying Zaki.  While Azmia is initially hesitant (due to her fear that Zaki will divorce her if he discovers the truth – a truth he already knows), she does ultimately agree and the two get married.  Zaki has already proved to be the perfect partner, a supportive man who is prepared to be Azmia’s shield against Zaki – and the rest of the world.  However, will he be able to protect Azmia from Nadira (Hira Tareen) and his mother?  This is the real dilemma here, more than Fardeen and anyone else.

Episode 23 is an eventful one and it’s beautiful to see these two sweet, innocent characters come together in marriage.  And yes, Azmia is innocent.  It’s tragic to see how she blames herself and how one mistake has completely shattered not only her life, but also her self-confidence.  However, if there’s anyone who will stand by her, not only as a friend, but also in marriage – it’s Zaki.  And Azmia’s mother is now well-aware of this fact, trusting Zaki to take Azmia away from Fardeen’s manipulative tricks.

It has to be said that Zahid Ahmed and Kinza Hashmi share really sweet chemistry which translates well on-screen.  Their characters are not immediately in love, rather their romance has grown out of friendship – and trust.  This is a beautiful love story and their performances only make it better.  Azfar Rehman is great as the evil Fardeen and has proved over and over recently that he’s great at these negative roles.  However, can a writer-director team recognize that this man has the looks and the talent to be a hero and create a show for him as a headliner?  Overall, “Mere Ban Jao” continues to impress week after week, particularly at the current juncture where we are now in an eventful phase.
