Mere Humsafar Episode 26: Hala’s Mistrust Creates A Rift Between Herself and Hamza

“Mere Humsafar” is a fan favorite, a show that thrives on Farhan Saeed and Hania Amir’s chemistry as Hamza and Hala.  Starring Farhan, Hania, Saba Hameed, Zoya Nasir, Waseem Abbas, Tara Mehmood, Omer Shehzad, Aamir Qureshi, Samina Ahmed and others, the story has been written by Saira Raza and directed by Qasim Ali Mureed.  Following the life of Hala, a young girl abandoned by her father to live with his family in Pakistan, “Mere Humsafar” is not an easy watch and never has been.  Hala faces turmoil on a daily basis, even when experiencing happiness as her misery is never far behind.  The highlight of “Mere Humsafar” is, without a doubt, the relationship between Hala and Hamza, the light in Hala’s dark life.  But at this point, is Hala bringing misery upon herself?  When does she stand up and take accountability for her actions and her relationships?

In episode 26, Khurram (Omer Shehzad) has declared war on Hala and is often spotted having discussions on Hala’s ruin with Shireen (Saba Hameed).  Hala now has her two greatest enemies under one roof, constantly conspiring against her.  This would be unnerving for anyone, but Hala is not just “anyone.”  This is a young girl who has been the target of emotional, verbal and even physical abuse at the hands of Shireen, who is unfortunately now her mother-in-law.  This entire family has practically starved her and she would have been living the life of hell if not for her grandmother (Samina Ahmed).  However, post her marriage to Hamza (Farhan Saeed), Hala has found happiness in her marriage and is even expecting a baby.  But with Hala’s anxiety increasing with each passing moment, how long can Hamza ignore Hala’s behavior?

Hamza has been a good husband, overall, to Hala.  He has been loving, understanding and supportive of her clearly visible discomfort under their family’s roof.  However, Hamza’s greatest failing has been his unwillingness to hear Hala speak ill of his mother, Shireen.  Shireen is the woman who has abused Hala throughout her childhood – and now Hala’s protector does not want to hear about her scars.  While this is aggravating and Hamza certainly falls several notches for this behavior, it also must be noted that Hamza does not know the extent of the behavior.  He does not know of the physical abuse, the starvation or any of this – though it’s a wonder how he could be so unaware when they did spend their childhood together in the same house.  They obviously did have different perspectives of their childhood, living under different conditions under the same roof.  However, at present, when the two are happily married, doesn’t Hala owe it to Hamza to tell him the truth?  Hamza is shocked at his wife’s behavior, wondering why she’s crying throughout the night and, most importantly, why she’s unwilling to confide in him.  The most important thing in a marriage is trust and respect, along with the ability to confide in one’s partner.  Here, Hala has built up a wall and has a hard time trusting anyone – even the man who loves her.

The situation at present is so dire that Hala is in a constant state of stress, which isn’t healthy while she’s expecting.  It is foolish to keep secrets from Hamza and being honest is the only way to proceed – otherwise, Khurram will reveal the truth himself.  Coming from Khurram, this will seem like betrayal, while if Hala confesses herself, it will put Hala’s conscience at ease.  Wouldn’t Hamza, a foreign educated man, understand that his wife liked someone in the past who betrayed her?  It’s becoming tedious watching Hala’s discomfort and turmoil when we can all see only one solution – honesty.  Hania Amir and Farhan Saeed continue to win hearts through their characters and share great chemistry, even in tense moments.  It’s time to see this couple happily supporting each other!
