#MeToo Pioneer Rose McGowan Says Movement Was Used For Fame And Jealousy

Alyssa Milano and Rose McGowan – two strong-headed women who were on the frontline when the #MeToo movement first gained momentum in Hollywood. Both stars were outspoken about their respective experiences with sexual harassment and were looked up to by women world over for their continuous fight against male predators including powerful names in the entertainment industry such as Harvey Weinstein. But not many knew that while Milano and McGowan worked towards a common goal and starred together in films, there were evident differences between them. Throwing it back to February 2018, McGowan once said, “I don’t like her, cause I think she’s a lie.” She posted a clip of the same on Twitter and has now accused Milano of being a #MeToo fraud.

In a feud that broke out between the Charmed co-stars on the micro-blogging site, McGowan went all out while expressing her harsh feelings towards Milano. It all started when the latter expressed her support for Joe Biden and the Democratic Party. For the unversed, McGowan has long been opposed to Biden after claims that he had sexually assaulted Tara Readea. Jumping on the bandwagon and immediately resorting to McGowan’s rescue, Readea posted, “And don’t ever forget @Alyssa_Milano Joe Biden sexually harassed and assaulted then ruined my life. Not once not twice but three times. YOU ARE COMPLICIT @Alyssa_Milano and an enabler of rape And I will NEVER let you forget how you tried to erase me. Now stop trolling Rose.”

Milano first posted about everything the “Democratic Party has done to make the world a better place”. She wrote, “Under the leadership of Democratic President Woodrow Wilson, the U.S. Constitution was amended to grant women the right to vote.” Lashing out at her, McGowan responded, “Ummm… did you conveniently forget only WHITE WOMEN got the right to vote? They betrayed all others. To quote Marilyn Manson, ‘I was not born with enough middle fingers.'” As the brawl between the two escalated, McGowan continued, “If I had been the leader of the Suffragettes, I would have waited and fought for EVERYONE’S right to vote. And you wonder why Black Women think white feminists are frauds. Most are.”

Not one to hold back, Milano replied, “Rose and anyone bleating the same ‘dEmOcRaTs DoNt HeLp PeOpLe’ nonsense, your lies are going to hurt people less privileged than you. It’s the kind of thing an ACTUAL fraud would do. Thousands of people are dying a day but you go on with your hyperbolic attention seeking tweets.” From politics to personal, McGowan then levelled a string of allegations against Milano. She blamed her for creating a “toxic” work environment on the sets of Charmed. “You threw a fit in front of the crew, yelling, ‘They don’t pay me enough to do this!’ Appalling behavior on the daily. I cried every time we got renewed because you made that set toxic. Now, get off my coattails you fraud,” responded McGowan. McGowan also slammed Milano for using the female-led campaign to her advantage. “You stole #metoo (a brilliant communication tool, not a movement) from Tarana. You co-opted my movement, the Cultural Reset, for fame, jealous of me for outing my rapist. You made 250k per week on Charmed,” she concluded. Both starlets have now blocked each other on Twitter.
