Mohabbat Dagh Ki Soorat: Sami Khan and Neelum Muneer’s Latest Offering Has Potential

Several new shows are making their way onto our television screens, some more exciting than others. One of those shows is “Mohabbat Dagh Ki Soorat,” a new launch on Har Pal Geo. The story has been written by Saira Raza, directed by Zeeshan Ahmed and starring Neelum Muneer, Sami Khan and Syed Jibran in central roles. The show at the onset appears to bring together two characters suffering from their own heartbreak – however, while the exact storyline isn’t yet clear, what is clear is that in the long-run, this will be a heavy drama.

In episode 1, we are introduced to Shijrat (Neelum Muneer) and her mother Mohsina (Kinza Malik) who have just recently lost their father/husband. The two are in mourning, Shijrat’s father having been a well-educated, kind-hearted individual who supported his family in many ways. Now moving in with Shijrat’s Chacha (Rashid Farooqi) and his family, Shijrat and Mohsina are overcome with grief at having left their own home. Fortunately, Shijrat’s Chacha and his family are not the stereotypical type that one would expect – rather, they are a loving and supportive family, caring for the mother-daughter duo as members of the family (which they are), consoling them through their grief. Well, all except one individual, Afaaq, played by Syed Jibran. Afaaq is married to the sweet Saba (Sunita Marshal) and he keeps the entire household on edge with his conservative, oppressive behavior. Shijrat comes out of her grief thanks to her Chacha’s encouragement and resumes her education. We are introduced to Sanaan (Sami Khan), an intriguing character who has seen his own share of grief after an accident that has left him needing assistance to walk. Considering Sanaan has seen rough times, will Sanaan be the shoulder Shijrat needs at this time? And if so, how will Afaaq react to this?

Overall, the first episode of “Mohabbat Dagh Ki Soorat” is entertaining enough. This isn’t a perfect show that has immediate pull, but it has potential. Like most dramas on Geo, there’s a heavy sprinkling of melodrama and the characters are over the top. Still, Sami Khan’s Sanaan is a character to look out for and with such a good cast, this drama is sure to be a surefire hit. What remains to be seen is if this show strives to be a quality show or will it head down the path of other popular shows like “Fitoor,” “Qayamat” and “Mohlat”?
