The aftermath of the first spell of monsoon rains in Karachi has been a not-so-pleasant experience with most of the city still facing power cuts, flooding and destruction in homes. While citizens put their hands together and pray for no more rainfall, it turns out that another spell of moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to hit Karachi in the next 24 to 48 hours. The Met Office on Friday warned people of the same, stating showers are forecasted to enter Sindh and Balochistan today. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed the news in a weather advisory.
Rain and wind thundershowers, with isolated heavy to very heavy falls, are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Tharparkar, Nagarparkar, Mirpurkhas, Islamkot, Umerkot, Sanghar, Sukkur and Larkana from Saturday evening till Monday evening, according to the PMD. Balochistan areas of Lasbela, Khuzdar, Awaran, Barkhan, Zhob, Musakhel, Loralai, Kohlu and Sibbi may also experience thundershowers on Sunday and Monday.

The PMD said rain accompanied by thundershowers is also expected in parts of Punjab including Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Khanpur, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal and Sahiwal during the period. The advisory warned that heavy rainfall “may further aggravate” existing urban flooding/water logging in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Mirpurkhas and Badin on Sunday and Monday. It added, “Heavy downpour may generate flash flooding in Sibbi, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbela and Dera Ghazi Khan during the period.” The PMD advised all concerned authorities to remain alert ahead of the new spell, reported Dawn News. Many areas of Karachi still remain submerged with water following the previous downpour that led the city to a state of emergency within a matter of hours. The uncontrollable situation forced the Sindh government to invite the intervention of Prime Minister Imran Khan who ordered immediate rescue operations for thousands of affected people.
