Motorway Incident: Jessica Chastain Speaks Up Against Victim Blaming

Jessica Chastain is a popular American actor and producer. Known for her work in films centering on feminism, she has bagged several accolades in her long-standing career. Having kicked off her Hollywood journey in 2004, the starlet has received a Golden Globe Award as well as two Academy Award nominations. Chastain has always been vocal about issues close to her heart including subjects related to gender pay disparity and women rights. She has now joined a list of renowned celebrities to have spoken up against the recent gang-rape incident in Pakistan, where two unarmed men sexually assaulted a Gujranwala-based woman in front of her two children.

Chastain took to her Twitter handle and opposed the rape culture. Sharing her thoughts on the micro-blogging site, she wrote, “A woman was gang raped in front of her kids and then blamed by the police. Victim blaming must end. I stand with the women in Pakistan who are coming together to raise awareness about rape culture and demand change. Down with this bullshit.”

Another added, “You are amazing. Thank you for this.” One user questioned, “2020 This has to stop.
