Ms. Marvel: Nimra Bucha Joins Iman Vellani For Disney+ Series

This year, Ms. Marvel has been in the headlines for many good reasons. The first exciting news we heard about this project based on a Muslim woman superhero was that ace Pakistani film-maker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy had been roped in to helm the project alongside others. Soon after, an even greater revelation went viral on the internet – the fact that Marvel’s first Pakistani Muslim woman superhero had been finalised. Iman Vellani was roped in to star in the Disney+ series based on the comic-book character. And now, reports suggest that ace Pakistani actor Nimra Bucha will be joining the cast too. Are you excited? Because we certainly are!

Film-makers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will also be serving as co-directors on the film, alongside Meera Menon, popular for her work in The Walking Dead and Titans. Written and developed by British writer Bisha K Ali, this will be both Villani and Bucha’s first major Hollywood production. Although the latter’s role has not been specified yet and she has made no mention of it on social media either, the official Marvel website has confirmed her presence.

Joining Vellani and Bucha, the series will also feature Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman and Travina Springer. Earlier, Kumail Nanjiani congratulated Vellani for bagging the role. He tweeted, “I just saw they cast Ms. Marvel and legit got teary eyed. Congratulations Iman Vellani! Your work is going to mean so much to so many people, myself included. I can’t wait.” Kamala, the teenage Pakistani American superhero first debuted in a Captain Marvel comic book series in 2013 and was later given her own series in 2014. Well, this means three Pakistani girls are set to take the Marvel Universe by storm. We can’t wait!
