“Mushk” continues to build a strong story, focusing on several different tracks that are all woven together. Starring Imran Ashraf, Urwa Hocane, Momal Sheikh and Osama Tahir in lead roles, “Mushk” has been written by Imran Ashraf and directed by Aehsun Talish. Last we saw, Roshni and Saqib had run away together, leaving Roshni’s family in a state of chaos in her absence while, on the other end, Shayaan manages to escape and stops to meet the SHO to have his Mamoon arrested.
The most disappointing part of episode 12 is simply Shayaan’s behavior. Shayaan waits for the SHO and trusts that law enforcement will deal with Malik – but these men are all in Malik’s pocket. Can we call it naivety or innocence? Maybe, but Shayaan was in the UK as a lawyer, so are we really expected to accept him as such a dim character? When he has been on the receiving end of his Mamoon’s extreme behavior for so long and is aware that he is highly influential, it’s frustrating to see how he approached law enforcement instead of simply making a run for it to safety. Now, once again, he is back to square one and at the mercy of Malik (Aehsun Talish). To make matters worse, Malik’s wife (Natasha Ali) is also now exposed and has been put in a dangerous position. One simply wants Mehek and Shayaan, two modern, well-educated individuals, to act with some intellect. It’s difficult to feel any pity for Shayaan at this point after such foolish choices – and yet, Osama Tahir is doing a wonderful job playing him with sincerity, making the innocence believable.
Coming back to Mehek (Momal Sheikh), she continues her “majboor” act for most of this episode as Dada Ji suffers three heart attacks after finding out Roshni has run away. While all gathered at the hospital, waiting for good news on Dada Ji’s condition, Zulekha (Zara Tareen) does not let Mehek rest for a moment, wondering why Mehek is having private talks with Adam and worrying profusely over a stranger’s baby instead of worrying about her own grandfather. Unfortunately for Mehek, Roshni has just made her situation much worse – the worry of Roshni’s actions has sent Dada Ji into poor health, so is there room for him to deal with Mehek’s lies and deceit now? It is nice though that Mehek finally acknowledges her own selfish, poor behavior and recognizes that Adam has a lot on his plate because of her. Does that excuse Mehek’s behavior and put her into a “good” zone? No, but it’s an improvement.
Adam (Imran Ashraf) continues to be there for Mehek, taking over taking care of the baby as well, understanding Mehek is unable to be there for him. Adam is thinly stretched and the entire family has placed a great load on his shoulders – whether it be searching for Shayaan and tending to the baby, caring for Dada Ji or searching for Roshni, Adam is being pulled in several different directions. But who is there for him in his time of need? Who is there to listen to him? This episode makes the viewer really feel for Adam and then, like a sliver of hope, Guddi becomes a third wheel in Adam and Mehek’s conversation, presenting herself as the relief Adam just may need in his life. While Guddi may be blunt, almost lacking empathy, the chemistry between Adam and Guddi is ever-present and one wants to see more scenes with Imran Ashraf and Urwa Hocane together.

Of course, last but not least, Roshni (Sehar Khan) will be the one who has to deal with the ramifications of her choices if her choice winds up being unwise. She has left her entire family and life behind after running away from her marriage. With Saqib’s (Raza Talish) words, he manages to convince Roshni and the viewers of his love. While Saqib is a fickle character, it’s difficult to assess his real intentions with Roshni. Will he deceive her or is he genuine? What role will his Khala have to play in this love story?
In comparison to past episodes, this one does not leave as strong an impact. Rather, the viewer is left frustrated that Shayaan got caught yet again and that Mehek continues to stay meek at a time when her child needs her the most. That being said, the entire cast is doing a wonderful job and the writing continues to be the strength. Special mention to Qavi Khan who manages to bring a smile to the face in his scenes with Roshni and Saqib. Overall, while this episode of “Mushk” was frustrating to watch, the show continues to weave its magic on viewers and leave us wanting more.
