“Mushk” is a show that focuses on quality over quantity. Rather than giving viewers action-packed episodes, it moves the story along in a subtle way, making the story feel seamless and natural (despite some 90s style action sequences). Starring Imran Ashraf, Urwa Hocane, Momal Sheikh and Osama Tahir in lead roles, the story has been written by Imran Ashraf and directed by Aehsun Talish. With Adam and Roshni on their way home, the household has been waiting for Roshni’s return.
Episode 17 continues with Roshni (Sehar Khan) and Adam’s (Imran Ashraf) return home. Roshni is overcome with guilt and fear of facing her family at home, particularly Dada Ji and Zulekha. Adam reassures her and gives her a shoulder to cry on – something which may become a problem later on. Once back at home, Mehek (Momal Sheikh) comforts Roshni and welcomes her home. It’s no surprise that Zulekha welcomes her daughter home with tears and relief. No matter how rigid the mother, Zulekha does want the best for her child and all she wants is for Roshni to be happy and safe. Still, like any mother would, she does not refrain from throwing a taunt or two in there. Respect to Zara Tareen who is playing this role in a way that feels authentic, where one can hate her in a moment and sympathize with her in the next.
Of course, Adam has done all this not only out of the goodness of his heart (which there’s a lot of), but also for Mehek. Mehek thanks Adam in a scene that’s hauntingly sweet. As Mehek states that Adam is the answer to her good deeds, Adam wonders to himself what good deed was missed that he didn’t get Mehek in return. Adam’s love for Mehek is so pure that it’s heartbreaking to see him go without her, despite also rooting for Shayaan and Mehek – who are also two do-gooders that are too naïve for their own good. After playing savior for Roshni, now Adam prepares to reunite Shayan and Mehek. On the other end, Shayaan (Osama Tahir) is ready to get married to his young cousin as he frantically tries to figure out a way to wiggle out of it.
More than anything, this episode leaves this viewer with two thoughts:
1) The chemistry between Imran Ashraf and Urwa Hocane as Adam and Guddi is so strong that the audience waits for their scenes together with an eager anticipation. And when that scene is finally delivered at the very end of the episode, it leaves one smiling from ear to ear. Guddi may not be a pure soul, but her personality has formed this way out of a necessity to be tough and deal with the world head-on. She has not lived the pampered lifestyle other girls have – and one can hope Adam will be there to smooth out the rough edges. Adam has the weight of the world on his shoulders in being the perpetual problem-solver for Mehek’s family and it’s nice to see him receiving some care and comfort from Guddi, no matter how undesired it is at the moment. This is a duo that is root-worthy and the actors are doing an incredible job.

2) Guddi identified it correctly, once again sounding the alarm bells for the thoughts running through the minds of the viewer. Roshni is now vulnerable after being betrayed by Saqib and now, having been rescued by Adam, she is softening seeing his goodness. If there’s an angle no one wants to see, it’s one between Roshni & Adam. At present, the family believes Adam and Mehek are engaged, so one can only hope Guddi and Zulekha don’t take this newfound love for Adam in a new direction – and yet, it’s somehow clear that this is exactly the direction in which this track may be headed, making Roshni another thorn in Guddi’s side.
Still, Zulekha’s troubles have not ended with Guddi around and now with Zulekha’s abusive husband coming back around to good health, it’s clear that tough times are ahead for this woman. Episode 17 is an interesting one and manages to be gripping despite focusing mostly solely on Roshni’s return. The performances and story continue to make “Mushk” a must-watch.
