“Mushk” has taken off on a strong note, moving at full-speed in the first three episodes. Starring Imran Ashraf, Momal Sheikh, Osama Tahir and Urwa Hocane in lead roles, the show has been written by Imran Ashraf and directed by Aehsun Talish. With a multi-track storyline and layered characters, “Mushk” continues to reel in viewers with its compelling storyline and endearing performances.
In episode 4, we see Zulekha (Zara Tareen) attempting to thwart Mehek’s (Momal Sheikh) attempts at meeting Guddi. Right away, this comes across as strange, because Mehek is an independent woman and, in the first episode, is shown as having more influence than Zulekha in the household, thanks to Dada Ji’s support. This is a woman who was single-handedly raising a child in the UK, an educated, street-smart woman. While it’s understandable that Zulekha has taken on more power in Dada Ji’s absence, why has Mehek let go of hers – especially considering what’s at stake! This part is a bit hard to digest. Momal Sheikh is doing a great job of acting though, portraying the grief of a mother separated from her child.
I’m not sure what the need was to include the kidnapping (dream) sequence in the promo. Quite honestly, this has become a cheap tactic to lure the viewer in and it’s not a good one. Anyway, the child was not kidnapped and that came as a relief, considering Mehek has a lot of other problems in her life and that would be an unnecessary addition to the commotion. Mehek, in her fear, visits Adam (Imran Ashraf) and comes clean about her dilemma. She relays her past, as well as Guddi’s backstory, to Adam as he patiently listens. Viewers discover that Mehek met Guddi at the train station upon her arrival in Pakistan. As Guddi was being chased, Mehek took her under her protection in exchange for her help posing as the baby’s mother. Armed with the knowledge that Mehek is married with a baby and then adding the situation with Guddi to the mix, Adam is floored and struggling to process. Fortunately, Adam is a stand-up guy and rushes to find Guddi. There’s an interesting exchange between Adam and Zulekha and it’s not entirely clear what is the backstory on that end, but it’s sure to be an interesting one. Adam does, in true hero form, manage to find Guddi and relaxes when he realizes she’s not running away with the baby.
There’s also an angle with Saqib (Raza Talish) and Malik Noor Uddin’s daughter, who has been arrested after being caught with Saaqib. Fortunately, the inspector ends up knowing Malik Saab and releases the girl. It’s not entirely clear where this story is heading – or maybe it’s just gone over my head.

Imran Ashraf has, once again, managed to steal the show. There’s a quiet strength and beauty to Adam as a character and Imran Ashraf has worked hard to set Adam apart from his other roles in the recent past. The way his expressions convey Adam’s initial shock turning to horror upon hearing Mehek’s story while still keeping up a protective exterior for Mehek’s sake just shows what a fine actor Imran truly is. The other stand-out performance in this episode is Urwa Hocane’s as Guddi. It’s clear that Guddi has a past and is on the run from someone – but for what reason? That’s not clear and while Guddi was already an intriguing character, this angle only adds to it. Guddi is a layered character that seems selfish on the outside and certainly has a nasty side to her (as seen in her enjoyment at ignoring Mehek’s calls), but is also capable of kindness, which is seen in her interactions with her mother. How will Adam bring Guddi back into the fold and help Mehek claim her baby? This will be interesting to see and one can only wonder how the story will unfold from here onward with new twists being added each week. “Mushk” is a gem of a show at this point.
