Omair Rana on People Spinning The Aamir Khan Comment: The World Needs A Sense Of Humour |TBI Exclusive

Entertainment bigwigs are always in the public eye. When well-known personalities make a statement on a particular topic, upload a picture or send across a message on social media, their words are more than often taken out of context. When this happens, it results in endless trolling, false reporting and misunderstandings on the part of social media users, who of course, resort to taking several (read: unnecessary) digs at them and make their lives almost miserable. Actor and theatre director Omair Rana has now fallen prey to the same. The artist – known for his wit and great sense of humour – recently posted a video, where talks about Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan’s hairstyle bearing similarities to his own. BUT it was all in fun and goodwill until netizens decided to make mountains out of a molehill!

 

 

 

 

From several media outlets to Twitter users, everyone has been going gaga since morning reporting about how Rana claimed Khan has stolen the hairstyle, he donned in the popular drama Pyar Ke Sadqe. However, is quite evident from Rana’s tone in the video clip that he was joking and there was nothing more than that to it. “Oh now I’m thinking international! I think Aamir Khan needs to give me a call because he has also copied my hairstyle and I admire him for that as well. I had already admired him and now since he has already admired my hairstyle, its like “Hey dude Aamir, give me a call on your way back from Turkey perhaps,” Rana says in the clip which has now been blown out of proportion. “Okay I’m pretty sure that hairstyle is inspired by Sarwar #Omairrana like I’m 100% certain #AamirKhan,” wrote one user. Referring to Samaa TV’s article, journalist Mahwash Ajaz tweeted, “What kind of reporting is this? He was joking. Has everyone lost their minds?” Well, what can we say!”

 

Talking exclusively to The Brown Identity, Rana said, “It is comic, it is really comic, at the end of the day I really want to laugh about it right now and I brush away such remarks to the side but it is very important at the same time because misreporting and taking things out of context can have serious repercussions. One of us is going to take it to court, simple and have a nice field day” He added, “I have always had high regard for Aamir Khan and his contribution to the entertainment world and South Asia. I still believe that the world needs a little more sense of humour and I think we have identified that is the antidote to all the hate.” Singing praises for Khan, Rana continued, “I was just joking, what if one day down the line I get to work with him. I hope I get to joke about this with the great Aamir Khan someday.”

Rana also uploaded a string of posts on his Instagram and lashed back at all the haters who have been sliding into his DM’s on Instagram and using foul language for no apparent reason. He captioned the post, “Hate begets hate. Look how easily any random person can spew hate. That too on such a trivial matter. Look how a joke, a sarcastic remark, can be twisted by click-hungry people and bloggers and spin it out of context. Look how irresponsible misquotes can possibly cause such hate and hate leads to harm. Let’s Try to not respond hate with hate. Let’s Try to know better about what the matter is. Let’s Try to know better who it is. Let’s Try to give GOOD the benefit of the doubt. Let’s Try to resist shooting from the hip on ‘instant-liking/commenting/forwarding’. Let’s Try.” He received the support of many of his colleagues including actor Zhalay Sarhadi who claimed to have been victim to a similar experience in the past.
